Nurses Safety

Published

"Wanted: licensed nurses to care for patients in our hospital. We respect the work nurses do by providing safe staffing, adequate equipment, and excellent support services. The MDs are always polite, willing to listen to the nurses opinions and observations, and explain their rational for orders.

We promise enought time to do physical and emotional care as well as charting. Medications and supplies are there when needed, lab, X-ray and other tests are done quickly with the results available . There is a system for getting extra staff in the event of admissions, codes, emergency surgeries, or transfers.

The management realizes the purpose of a hospital is NURSING CARE. If someone does not need nursing care they are not admitted to the hospital. This means NURSES ARE OUR MOST VALUBLE RESOURCE! If you are willing and able to give the finest quality care please apply.

Gave me a good laugh, and I actually enjoyed taking the statements apart to what they could actually mean. Curiosity would lead me to answer the ad if I had some time to waste.

Any single, unmarried, tall, straight guys?

Sorry, at our "almost as good as the ad" hospital my unit has only two men, both married. We sometimes get single, straight, attractive men from the registry. They are mostly not tall. we do have a wonderful group of coworkers.

It is regrettable to see nurses reply this "ad" by commenting that it is "too good to be true" because in the new work environment of the 21st century we truly hold the power to have this (or something close to it.) Hiring has shifted from employer to employee so instead of lowering our expectations we should raise the bar for our employers & request or even demand what we need to give quality patient care. Some organizations do provide most of these things, it's worth the search. Nice job, spacenurse!

Sounds to me like a hospital that is trying to keep a UNION OUT! lol

Great Idea! Lets get the word out to all nurses interviewing for jobs that they must insist on being able to provide quality care. Safe staffing levels and working equipment available as needed should be promised in writing before accepting a position in nursing. Can I use your idea for nurses looking for work?

Well. I think providing excellent working conditions especially the oportunity to deliver the highest quality care is the only way (in the long view) that will keep a union out. Intimidation, false promises, lies etc. will not work because there are so many jobs. Any nurse who is punished for organizing their hospital can easily work elsewhere. At worst in the small community with only one hospital relocation is an option. Better than the psychological abuse many hospitals subject nurses (and others) to.

I probably would not answer this ad. I don't even answer ads that offer sign on bonuses. The reason being that if they need to offer such hefty sign on bunuses then staffing must be REALLY bad. If hospitals are really serious about fixing the staffing problem, then I feel that more permanent financial incentives should be offered, not just a one time bonus. Besides, the staffing crunch is not really about money anyway, now is it?

I think I would definately check it out no matter how hard it is to believe. If you do check it out and it is true, let me know OK. Iwould like to apply myself !!! [email protected]

Absolutely. Sign me up for this job. biggrin.gif. I'd take a pay cut for some peace of mind and a good night sleep after work.

Specializes in Med/Surg, ICU, Cardiac ICU.

I agree with goldilocksrn! It would be so great to work for a place like that. I thought where I work wasn't too bad until I read about valuing the nurse and respecting them. We actually got our nurse care hours increased (after 3 yrs of asking and proving the need with reports of acuity and taking on new treatments) and a raise (because we were among the lowest pay scales in TX, we couldn't keep nurses!). There is still a lack of respect for what we do though. We seem to be treated like what we do is never good enough.
