Worst part of being a school nurse

Filing a CPS report.

Something is going horribly wrong in a child's life, and all I can do is send a report and hope someone else is able to help. I can't put a bandaid on this.

Good news -- I called back today to follow up and they confirmed they ARE taking it on as a case. This was especially relieving as it was a medical neglect case, and a student in a similar situation in a nearby district died a few months ago.

Thank you all for the kind comments and support, they really meant a lot.

I am glad they are taking it on as a case...so many times they don't :(

Three days after starting a full time school job, I had to file with CPS. It left me with a terrible feeling because at the end of day, I still had to send the student home. Fast forward a summer and I find out the child was shipped by the accused abuser out of the country to other family. Relief? Nope, because she went from one bad situation to another. That student's fate haunts me, but red tape was everywhere.

::hugs:: fetch. Glad they are taking it in to investigate.

I kept the child at school until the Sheriff showed up. They took the child to the local ER for a medical assessment and then went to pick up his younger siblings and immediately put them in a foster home. They've never been back to the abusers. I see them everyday I am at the elementary school where I noticed the abuse. They are all so happy. That child always gives me a hug and a huge smile.

I'm so sorry JenElizabethRN. That's especially difficult.
