Worried about my Nclex application...need some thoughts.

I have just finished up my second year and will be applying for the NCLEX shortly. However, I am nervous and anxious when it comes to filling out the application. The question that asks "have you every had any certifications, license denied, revoked, or suspended" is freaking me out!

Background: Over 2 years ago I was working as a Dialysis technician with a "Patient Care Technician" certification, as it turns out my boss and I both didn't realize my certification lapsed and I had been working without a certification for almost 6 months! When I went to re-apply they denied me my certification because it had been too long that I was working. Although I accept some of the blame for working and not being on the ball with my certification, my boss was also responsible for making sure I got re-certified and wasn't put on the schedule until I had done so. By saying this, I don't mean to blame my boss, but cannot accept full responsibility.

I have not even thought about it until now. I plan on being honest with the board about it all. As I was advised to be from someone from the state board. They also couldn't give me an answer on whether or not it would be a problem.

So I am wondering if anyone thinks my chances are good or if they will deny my application over this situation? I have a clean record, and have had my CNA license for 13 years. Any advice is appreciated...thank you.

Sorry but I don't agree. YOU are responsible for your certification, license or whatever. No, he shouldn't have scheduled you to work but he also manages more than just you. You are an adult and should be more aware of when things like that are going to expire. I'm sorry you are in a predicament but you need to accept responsibility for your actions.

There is validity to the above quote. You're 99% responsible and you're boss is 1% responsible unless there is a human resource director, director of nursing or PCT, etc. over employee records. Don't know your company's policies. You did take responsibility for you're actions, not 100%, however some is much better than not at all. Good job on that note.

Guess what, as an ADULT WE ALL are forever learning and progressing toward becoming better with responsibility and accountability. The ADULT who has not made a mistake, by all means please please cast the first stone. I've made plenty so I dare not look at any stones. :) As RESPONSIBLE adults, we guide and teach others no matter the age or mistake. That's what we do. Isn't that an awesome responsibility given to us in our society? :)

However it WAS A MISTAKE and guess what, mistakes happen. It's ok. We live, acknowledge, accept responsibility, learn from our mistakes, and graciously move on. I dare not blame you during your time of crisis, I only say stay calm, stay focus, be truthful in your explanation, and go become a great nurse. I believe you'll be fine. ;)
