Hi,
I did my nursing school in France ( graduate 1996) . I am working in Canada now and have my canadian citizenship.
I am planning to work in US and I contacted an US agency .
The recruiter told me that I may not get a visa screen because I didn't do OBS training during my school . We did Theorical but Training is ''Can do '' , not mandatory .
Is that true ? did someone any tips or experience to share ?
Thank you for your help .

As I mentioned in my other post you do need hours both clinical and theory in all areas. CGFNS CES report will indicate what your transcripts state and as long as you meet state eligibility and pass NCLEX then there is no reason why vsc is denied.
Hi ,
Is it mean that without OBS training , i won't meet the criteria ? Or do I still have a chance ?
Thanks

Different countries have different approaches to nursing education and licensure. The US educates and licenses all RNs as generalists -- that is, you have to be educated (classroom/theory and clinical experience) in all the main areas of nursing -- general medical-surgical, pediatric, obstetrical, and psychiatric. Without having the minimum required education (including clinical) in all areas, you won't be eligible for licensure.

I wouldn't worry about the visa screen so much as the requirements for the state nursing license. What state are you planning to apply to? The best thing would be to apply for your CES evaluation and the result will tell you if you meet the requirements, or what you need to do.
I spent the WE browsing the web and reading french nurse advice .
They told that it is better to apply directly through a board state ( few of them apply through california ) and we may have to take few hours theorical and training in OBS .
I would like to try NY or California . An agency told that Nebraska is friendly with foreign trained nurse but working in canada but they want a social security number ( US) !!!!!
This won't be easy . I never think that missing few hours of OBS despite 3 years of education will lead to this mess........
I found Vermont a good state to apply through initially, then endorsed to Pennsylvania where i wanted to work. They did not require a SSN for initial license, only for renewal.
As I said, applying for the CES report will evaluate your training and tell you what to do. Applying for CA is silly because you don't have a SSN which you need to get the license approved.
Thank you for your reply .
I am planning to do travel nursing ( I am doing already over canada right now ) . I am in BC now and a candian nurse applied through california and they don't ask any SSN . She is planning to do traveling too.
Do you have a french diploma ?
Yes, CA do require SSN for any foreign nurse or they do not release the license. Please do some reading on the forum as this has been discussed over and over.
I did my 3yr bachelor of nursing degree in Australia.
I am going to ask my coworker again . She has to pass the NCLEX now .
If we work through an agency placement , maybe we will get the SSN when we get a contract .
Anyyway , i am not there yet , have to deal with my education first and then .....
Thank you
You will only get your SSN once you are in the US with a valid work/immigrant visa. Having a job contract will not get you a SSN. NY and CA do their own assessment so agree with ghillbert and suggest you get a CES report done as that will brake down your transcripts and indicate if you need to make any hours up
I downloaded already California and New-york for the CES ....And wil se from then.
Thank you to confirm ......this si going to be a long road but it,s worth it .
