Hello everyone. I was wondering, is it detrimental to my job as an RN if I am also stripping on the side for additional money? Can I be fired for this? I know there are morality issues (for some) and such with this, but is it legally wrong? I live in southern California by the way. The salary as I make as a stripper is far greater than any nursing job out there. The reason I'm also working as a nurse is for the benefits, retirement, and job security when I'm older and can no longer strip.
I DO find the contradiction hilarious. But I also see why the OP would argue the point. At a strip club, people pay in large part to see breasts. At work- people aren't expecting to see breasts... So yes- at work it is adviseable given our screwed up culture, to cover them.
Or, conversely, not cover them. If we as women are going to work to shape a culture where we are empowered and living fully, we need to support the already vast efforts to normalize BFing in public. I would celebrate if the sex industry lost their monopoly on breast exposure, and breasts became less sexually charged as they are in much of the world.
I find the prudish response to BFing hilarious, especially from proponents of the sex industry.

Our culture is so screwed up.With all due respect to the OP, I just caught her response to another post regarding breast feeding in the workplace. Her advise was to not disclose that she is breastfeeding to her employer as that information might work against her, and pump in a concealed room as her co workers might be uncomfortable.
I guess I thought that those mammary glands are evolutionarily about nourishing our offspring. I guess it is better to keep them concealed so we can better market their appearance in strip joints.
This is the post that started the breastfeeding conversation . . . and it is an interesting point.

I'm not against breastfeeding, and I don't discourage it. Some may find it uncomfortable and therefore it has to be done discreetly/privately/alone. This topic isn't even related to the post. Equinox understood my point, and I'm sure others do as well.
The topic of women's ability, or lack thereof, to breastfeed comfortably in our culture is intimately tied to this post. I am sorry you can't see the connection. That is truly the crux of the problem.
Can I say one thing about the public breastfeeding? :bowingpurPlease keep doing it.
:sofahider OK. That was poor taste. I am only kidding.
What I really want to say about it is, I think some people, myself included, shy away from people while they do it.......not because we think it is wrong but because...well, we want to give a person some privacy. I would never tell someone not to do it. The kid needs to eat when they need to eat. We change diapers in public. I think some people get touchy about it cause they are shy about it, but not against it.
Back to the real topic. As I stated, there is a lifestyle that goes on in the strip clubs. People are getting all caught up in "Can she be fired for doing it?"
I can answer that. The answer is NO. If you disagree.......spot me a link that, without room for interpretation, says otherwise. Show me one case of someone being fired for it. Not for something like it, not for something sorta the same thing. You wont find one.
The reason I would advise against doing it is, when the police bust down the door casue they suspect prostetution or drugs.........do you want to be there. That arrest could go on your record AND THAT IS WHAT WILL MAKE YOU LOSE YOUR LICENSE. The arrest. Guilty by association.
Nursing couple stripped of Arizona jobs over Web site nudity

"Basically, we just were looking for a little extra money," Tracy Miller said. "We thought it would be a cool thing to do.""We would have been happy with $200 a month," said George, who like his wife received his nursing degree from Community College of Allegheny County.
They got more than that -- about 2,800 subscribers who pay $14.95 a month.
But their avocation has caused them to lose their vocations. Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital fired them Aug. 5 from their jobs as on-call intensive care nurses, positions which earned them a total of $96,000 last year.
"In termination papers, the hospital said the couple sexually harassed fellow employees and created a hostile work environment by trying to recruit employees to appear on the site -- an allegation the couple denies."
Hmmm............well, IDK. The hospital claims they were going after people to join them AT WORK. That is not acceptable. Guess it comes down to who you believe.
Aside from the above quote from the same article, I stand corrected. Guess they could fire you for it.........but wont admit that is why you are being fired. If the couple is telling the truth though, I find it odd they hospital would lie about the reason for the firing. Thats a big IF though.......IF the couple is telling the truth. Who knows. But I do stand corrected.

I am pretty sure this is the couple I talked about earlier in this thread that I saw on some show like 20/20 or Dateline. Unless there's another RN couple in Phoenix who ran a Media site featuring themselves and got fired over it, then did a ton of media interviews.
I'm pretty sure I remember from the 20/20 or Dateline show that the couple lost all their appeals.
