Please be careful, as most are scams. Try to find something listed on the BBB website or a company with a long track record.

I tried the "independent contractor" insurance "examiner". The way it was supposed to work was I'd get a call from the home office listing clients names, addresses, and phone numbers as well as what their (usually life) insurance company was ordering (blood, urine, history, height/weight, etc.)

It was very hard to schedule appointments. Sometimes I'd go to the home and no one was there and I was required to wait 30 minutes. If no one showed up I didn't get paid. Minimal reimbursement for travel/miles/gas if at all. Flat rate was like $20 to collect a UDS. I wasn't a nurse, simply a hospital trained phlebotomist. Plus I later found out that my auto insurance would not have covered me if something ever happened as it would have been considered 'commercial' use not personal use (especially if human specimens were in the vehicle).

To this day I have yet to get paid for any of the completed work.

There is a REASON for the high turn around, and why they are posting on Craigslist rather than recruiting at nursing/allied health schools, online career sites etc.

Like PP said, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

I agree. Please be careful with craig's list. If you are wanting a good reputable site that sometimes has at home nursing jobs, go to http://www.ratracerebellion.com . This site is free and does a good job at screening the offers before posting. I have seen a few at home nursing positions in the last few months. They are few and far between, but the do come up.

I currently work part-time at home. I have an elementary education degree and I am able to use that background to work from home.

Thank you everybody for your feedback. I was just curious about this type of job opportunity and was tempted to give it a try. According to this one company, they are looking healthcare professionals to work as independent contractors medical interviewers. I also thought this might be a good opportunity for New Grads to supplement their income, since everywhere else they ask for at least one year of nursing experience. So, too good to be true, huh?

There are online or at home jobs out there, but you just need to be careful and do your homework. The site that I gave is a good reputable site that screens their jobs, but even they have had a few jobs slip through the cracks. If you go onto Rat Race Rebellion they do have a medical/health section that does list the companies that will hire medical people for work at home sites.

Good luck with your search. If you need more help or information about online work, let me know and I will try to help as much as possible.

The only other piece of advice that I can give everyone here is that you should never have to pay to get a job and you should never have to pay to get information about a job. All of this information can be found for free.
