You need to contact the college of nurses in the province in which you want to work. They will instruct you on how to apply for a license.Basically they will assess your education and decide if you meet their requirements.Each province has their own requirements but they are all similar.Once you meet the requirements you will be given permission to write the CRNE.

I will not address the visa issue. There are others on here more knowledgeable on that subject.

It may very well mean that. It will depend on where you were educated in the Philippines, what the curriculum includes and excludes, how much clinical time you had in each subspecialty and more. There are many, many threads on this topic here already with detailed and accurate responses. Have you read them yet?

You are aware that Canada is the second-largest country in the world by landmass and that the cost of living, availability of inexpensive housing, climate and working conditions vary from province to province. Right?

Another thing you should know is that right now there is no shortage of nurses in Canada and for an IEN to become registered and emigrate, there needs to be a favourable Labour Market Opinion - meaning that there will definitely be a job for this IEN to fill once s/he is here. Which there currently isn't. There are only a limited number of visas each year for nurses and they've usually been exhausted by mid-year. Those who applied for a visa in May or June 2012 are going to be ahead of you in the queue for a visa. As well, there have been recent changes to Canadian immigration laws which may have an effect on your application.

The process for IENs to become RNs or LPNs in Canada is a long and costly one. Be prepared for it to take more than a year, and many hundreds of Canadian dollars. Be prepared to be told that your education isn't equivalent to that of a Canadian nurse, meaning you may be expected to take certain courses to meet requirements. Be prepared to come to Canada to write the CRNE, which is only written three times a year at present, and is only written inside the country. Be prepared for a lot of frustration and confusion.

Our licensing bodies are called colleges. The college of nursing is who you have to apply to for a license.You don't have to go to school to get a license unless the assessment determines you are lacking in some areas.

I have the same issue, I have nursing license in USA. But my working permit expired and I want to look for other options. I wish I could apply in Canada. Can someone help me to find good recruiting agency in Canada who could help me go through the process and find a job.

Application for nursing can easily be done by yourself. Then check out CIC website for route to take to work and live in Canada

While the application process might be easily accomplished without an agency, finding work won't be easy and obtaining a work permit will probably be even more difficult given the changes to immigration that have been put in place. Having US citizenship makes it a little easier but jobs aren't easy to come by these days. Canadian nurses are moving across the country to find jobs. So be prepared for a long and frustrating process.

You need a job to get into Canada. It isn't easy to get a job. Some sites with jobs for international workers include the Canada job bank, uniivaa.com, eluta.com, and kijiji.com.
