Woo_hoo!!! I Got My Letter!!!(slcc)

Published

HI ALL!!

(just a wee bit excited). Today I received a call from the admissions office at Forest Park Community College asking me to come on over & register for the Fall session in the Nursing program. When I got there they gave me "my acceptance letter". I'm all registered and go to an orientation July 20th!!!

I was shocked & surprised by this! I was number 77 going into this, so I was pretty sure I wouldnt be starting in the fall. THIS IS ABSOLUTLY FANTASTIC!! The admissions folk told me that they have had to send out 80 letters so far to try & fill the class.

I'm walking on air right now and so happy to be starting it all this fall! Whatever number you may be on a list....never give up hoping!

Congrats!! I'll be attending Meramec, but I wouldn't have hesitated to attend FP had the timing been right. Having taken several prereqs on that campus, I had just as positive an experience there as I ever did at Meramec.

I think the STLCC colleges are great and hope that my expectations of their RN programs live up to my other experiences with them!!

Best wishes to all who are starting in the Fall!!:biere:

Congrats to you. I am very happy for you. It is a great program that the community colleges have. I am at FloValley now and I simply love it. I am due to graduate in May and it is so worth it. Again congrats!

Thanks everyone!

I have heard great things about SLCC's nursing program too!

Can't wait to start!

(can you tell I'm still walking on air!!)

Hello and Congratulations

I was wondering what was the timeframe from the time you were placed on the waiting list to the you were accepted. Did you apply at all of STLCC or just one in particular?

Good Luck

So you graduate in May, i'm jealous. I was wondering how may hours and how many days per week are clinicals at Flo Valley. I'm considering attending. Do you know if they help with employment (in the healthcare field of course) while attending their nursing program. I know many women now who are quitting their fulltime careers to venture over to nursing. That's my plan as well but I would be looking for a parttime job as a Tech of something of the sort. Is that something that they discuss with you upon entering the program?

Thank You

I only applied to SLCC-Forest Park as it is near my home. I also took all my pre-req's there & really love the campus!

From the time I first got on the list, till I got my letter was 2 semesters.(put on the list October, 2005 got my letter July 2006 for Fall 2006) I was told it would be three(I figured I would be starting the program in January and had already signed up for fall classes that would apply to the BSN I plan to get). I was told by admissions that for the Fall 2006 class they had to send out a total of 100 letters to fill a class of 48 people. Some of those folks didnt respond by the due date, some had gotten into other programs, some didnt take or didnt pass the dosage calculations test that is required, some changed their minds. Maybe this is average I really don't know. I just know I am really happy to be starting. Our orientation is August 17th.

Hope that helps!

PS...I have heard of some folks putting their name in at all 3 campuses. I say whatever works for you. Meramec & Forest Park have classes that start in the Fall and in the Spring. Florissant Valley's class only starts in the Fall(one class per year)but I have been told it's a bigger class than ours(they have 60 students in the program, we have 48...don't know how many student Meramec takes each semester).

GOOD LUCK!

I was basically going to mention what luvs2 writes above. I think the number they went through for FP was about average; maybe a little higher than the counselor I had talked to last year.

I was on the list there for 2 semesters; 3 for Meramec. I didn't apply to FloValley mainly to avoid the driving hassle (thank goodness with gas costs!).

I don't know if they help you find jobs, but I did see letters on the bulletin board when at FP that were from St. Luke's (I think) asking for patient care techs -- a requirement of having completed Fundamentals to apply. So I imagine they have leads....they do now, however, encourage working if possible. And they definately recommend working no more than 20 hours or so a week.

The program seems very good and so far, they seem to really care about success in their programs. And heaven knows. compared to other programs in this area, the price is RIGHT!!!

I would recommend making contact with someone in the RN program where you are considering applying. They're very helpful!

Best wishes!
