I've heard nothing but good things about Maryville. As a matter of fact, I plan to begin the program Fall 2008. I understand where you are coming from. I too work a fulltime day job, married, and 1 kid. It's going to be rough but if it's what you want to do then nothing should stop you. I thought about giving up sooooo many times. I'm taking A&P2 now and it's hard but, hey, it's my dream so I gotta do it. Can you really picture yourself doing anything else 10 - 20 yrs from now? I ask myself that question everynight. Keep you head up and best of luck to you. I'm jealous of you, I wish I was able to start this fall.

So you graduate in May, i'm jealous. I was wondering how may hours and how many days per week are clinicals at Flo Valley. I'm considering attending. Do you know if they help with employment (in the healthcare field of course) while attending their nursing program. I know many women now who are quitting their fulltime careers to venture over to nursing. That's my plan as well but I would be looking for a parttime job as a Tech of something of the sort. Hi, I personally had bad views about Deaconess from the beginning. I mean, does it make sense to get a Nursing degree (associates) online. I don't want a nurse who got their degree online. I checked them out on the Missouri State Board website and less the 70% of the students passes the NCLEX. Shocking isn't it. I feel they changed their name hoping that they can turn around what they started. May newcomers to St Louis won't know but we all know it is still Deaconess College of Nursing.

You're right, I am trying to find the cheapest and fastest way to get my RN license. I do have most of my pre-reqs completed. I'm afraid that I will have to quit my job once clinicals start and since I don't qualify for a grant I'll be able to live off student loans while attending community college versus the high cost of BSN schools. (Any Suggestions?) I'm currently taking courses to prepare me for the BSN just in case I decide to pursue that. I really hate Barnes is discontinuing their ASN program.

I think these schools just tell you the first thing that comes to their mind. I spoke with Lutheran 2 days ago and she said I could begin spring 07 if I get all of my paperwork in by then. The main problem I have with them is I am in North County and their in deep South City. I guess that's just a sacrifice I'll have to make.

Ok, that rules out BSN, so what about a diploma program? There is only 1 school in St Louis that offers that. I'm not sure if I should try that or just wait and go to community college.

I'm considering it too. Their waiting list isn't quite as long.....and you don't need microbiology. My only problem is, I've been living in St Louis all of my life and have never heard of anyone talking about St Alexius hospital. I also have not heard anything good about Tenet except that they will pay $5000/yr ($15000 max) if you sign a contract for 1 year. I don't know. Have you decided yet. As of now, I am dazed and confused!!!

Is it true that the starting salary for ASN and BSN grads will be the same even though you spent 2 extra years in college for BSN?

The reality is... it's not going the be the hardest thing you've ever been through but it will be HARD!!!!!!!!

STLCC sends you a postcard when you are eligible to start the program which you need to send back by a certain day. I was told that they sent out 45 notices (the maximum) for fall 2006 and none of the applicants replied. The waiting list is not as long as they say. Don't give up. I am in a similar situation as you. It's tough being a wife, mother, and working fulltime then trying to go to school. I thought about giving up and going to school for Healthcare Management but I knew I would regret it in the long run. Then, I would be going back to school when I'm 45 trying to be a nurse. Stay Focused. Stay Strong. I can't even get on the waiting list because my GPA is 2.4 (it requires a 2.5). Science is hard but I know I will eventually make it, and so will you. Barnes Jewish College told me that they were going to abolish their ASN program.
