I got to be a *star* to a patient who developed post op complications leading to weeks of mechanical ventilation. At 4:00AM he was awake so I asked if he wanted a bath. Not able to read his lips I gave hom a pencil, paper, & clipboard. He wrote, "Sing 'Melancholy Baby'"
I sang as he was bathed and shaved. He smiled.
After leaving the room his call light came on. He had drawn a big STAR. He pointed to the star then to me mouthing, "Star, you."
He eventually went home and was able to drive .

I bet for the amount of money it took for them to put on that show for that doctor, they could pay 3 nurses salaries for 1 year. That is just crazy. Limousine rides to job interviews???? Good grief.

Spacenurse I loved that story. Did you read the part about Wined and Dined at Duquesne Club. I would be shot for walking on the sidewalk in front of that place.

Much more dangerous there. We had about 50 nurses in uniform on the sidewalk in front of the hotel in Century City (Los Angeles County) where the Tenet shareholders were meeting. A couple nurses havd a few shares so went into the meeting. \
It makes me sick. There should have been an outcry in the entire community. No matter how great the doctor patients cannot be cared for without sufficient nursing staff. That was probably mostly taxpayors money (Medicare, medicade, government empployees and so on).
You hit it correctly.
WHY DO THEY NOT SEEK OUT STAR NURSES?
I think they don't want the best because they insist on adequate equipment and staffing! Nurses who try to make things better are labeled "Troublemaker".
These are often either forced to resign over some small infraction or the STARS we all want to work with us or care for us when we need a nurse.
SO? Lets do more actions. After all nurses have been the most respected except for one poll just after 9/11 when it was firefighters. Now it is NURSES again!
