With Gratitude

Published

A million thanks to those who are working the holidays. I hope society realizes and appreciates that some of us are on duty and that we've got the watch.

How's it going, those of you who've been working?

Take heart, it's not just nurses and docs. There are also police, fire, EMT's, workers in many hospital departments, TV and radio stations, Quick Trip type stores, movie theaters, probably other places that are not coming immediately to mind, plus those who are on call - government officials, those who are on call for emergencies. And our military, of course.

God gless everyone.:redpinkhe

Thanks for starting a great thread! I felt really lucky this year. I had yesterday off, spent it with family, and then went worked 1230-1900 today. We split our shifts on Christmas, which is such a blessing! It was actually kind of nice to see my co-workers and wish one another a Merry Christmas. I cherish all the little things we do for one another to make the holiday shift a little easier. (I was kicking myself for not bring a "morale elevating box of donuts" on my way in!) Several sweet co-workers, patients and family members brought us poinsettias, cookies, and cards, which warmed my heart. The nurse who left me report wrote "Merry Christmas, Bridgette" on our report sheet, and it made my day.

That was such a good message. I probably don't mind working today as much as others because I am Jewish, and I know my pts. and their families are grateful for all of us too. Today was nice because everyone was joyful and cheery.

Thanks for the good wishes. My DS got his first taste of having to work on Christmas 9 hours at a convenience store that was slammed busy....and remembered times I was not home or had cell phone glued to ear while oncall. DH was the one that had more issue as presents not opened till 4:30PM. Tis the spirit and fellowship that counts!

Kudos to OP for starting this thread! Merry Christmas to those who gave extra today.

Wow, I just survived one of the worst Christmas shifts I remember. :>( Very frustrating, huge trauma drama plus other admits with very few staff. Thankfully we all pulled together and provided the best care possible. Am I thankful to be home.

Ironically, I headed in with a really good attitude wanting to make this the best day possible for my patients and families. sigh.

Dude, believe me, somebody appreciates you q day. I bet you're a great guy, a great nurse.

Thanks, what a nice thing to say.

I had a very good shift. For once families and patients were in a quiet, decent mood. I could tell they were bummed to be in the hospital and glad we were there. Today I'm sure it's back to the whiney, demanding, pettiness. LOL
