Will medical terminologly help with A&P

I had to drop my Spring A&P class because I needed surgery. I can get into an A&P class for the summer, but the lab sections are all full. All the microbiology classes for the summer don't have labs. All the chem classes are full. I really don't need medical terminologly but I'd rather do something than nothing. Does anyone think taking medical terminolgly will help with A&P?

I don't know the specific details of your A&P requirements or college programs, but I had medical terminology before I took A&P I and II and while I didn't use it constantly throughout the class, I felt like it did help me a lot.

It didn't help me a whole lot on the anatomy section, but I feel that I understood the physiology a lot better because I could look at the name of a cell, or enzyme, and break it down into some of its word roots - that would then help me remember it better than if I had just been trying to memorize each name independently.

I have also heard that knowing all of those word roots and prefixes will help a lot during the actual nursing program.

My whole med term book looks like an A&P book ! I tink it would be a great help, couldn't hurt. Take a look at the book,:uhoh21: you will see what I mean. I thought the same thing. Good luck to you.

I took it with A&P I. It definately helped in A&P II. I would do it.And it can only help with your nursing later on.

Med Term helped me TONS and still does.

Can you talk to individual proffesors and see if they will make an exception and take you int their class? Usually a couple drop it right after it starts and some professors (not all) will make exceptions if they know you are motivated and talk to them one on one.

One thing I have to say, it seemed to take forever to be in the program, then to finish the program, but now that I have one day left I look back and think it went by way too fast!

I took Anatomy last semester and got an A w/o a Med Term class, and I'm doing fine in Physiology (95 average)... IMHO, I don't see a reason to take Med Term unless it is required by your school.

Medical terminology was not useful in my A&P classes but I am glad I took it because it will be extremely useful for the nursing program. I definitely think it is a good idea for eveyone to take it. Just think of it as a jump start for the nursing program itself.

I'm taking Med Term now (after I'd already taken A&P). REALLY wish I'd taken it before! It would have helped tremendously. Med Term gets you familiar with the terms so when you get to A&P you're already a step ahead... since you don't have to learn the terminology along with everything else. Definitely would recommend taking it.

Hey there. Just like everyone has mentioned, while it wont make A&P EASY, it will slightly help. Like someone said before me it will help with word roots and what not. I JUST finished my 2nd a&p and the only instance I can recall in the whole semester that having med term helped my study group was while we were learning the elements of blood. One member who had just taken Med Term recalled that Platlets are called Thrombocytes, and a blood clot is reffered to as a Thrombosis. So one way we learned to remember Thrombocytes is that the Thrombocytes form a Thrombosis. I know this is a long and drawn out way of saying it, but there are little ways med term can help you with A&P, but its not going to make the class much easier. It is a required for us to take Med Term here in TN. But even if I didn't have to take it I think I would anyway. Like everyone said, it can only help. I hope this has been some sort of help with a small example of how we used both classes to remember something last semester. Good luck to you. My school didn't require it but I took it just to fill my schedule and knew it would transfer later if I wanted. In the nursing clinicals knowing the terminology will help you so much if you have taken it. Being able to figure out the basis of a disease by knowing the terminology has helped me tons.
