Hello!
I was in a very similar situation with the exception I had no kids. Community colleges are typically the cheapest ones and thus the most competitives to get in (even with an excellent GPA). Private schools are (a lot) more expensive and easier to get in. One thing you need to be smart about is to ensure the institution is accredited by ACEN and that you can afford the program. Otherwise, employers do not care where you graduate from (though Ivy League schools give you bragging rights).
My GPA was 3.4 and TEAS score was 89... I got in to Herzing University without problems or delays. However, their tuition was like $700 per credit hour at the time (2011). My ADN ended up costing me $40K. My online BSN was only around $9K.
Hope this information helps! :)

I am so frustrated. I've gone back to school to pursue nursing as a second career. I currently have a 3.6 GPA and an 89 HESI score. I am currently retaking Micro and Dev Psych to get A's. I have been turned down from 3 schools already and I just can't figure out why!
If I don't get into a nursing program by the Spring, I will seriously need to figure out something else to get my bachelors in.
I'm 37 and I have a 3-year-old. when he starts school at 5, I need to be ready to get into the workforce. I can't hold up my life waiting to get in. I'm hoping retaking these classes will change my luck.Just venting
