depends how self-disciplined you are with studying and going to school on-time. If you are able to focus your attention on school and designate time to studying and w.e comes while in school while working by all means do it! i worked 35-40hrs a week while in vn school yes it was A LOT of work and very stressful when it came to exams, case studies, care plans, and everything else. I was lucky to be employed at a nursing home (this was an actual house) with only 6 kids so i had time to sit down and do my homework and study for exams. i would do clinicals from 630-230 and work 3-11 mon-fri. kids went to bed by 8 after doing my rounds i would sit down and do my hw and check on the kids every 1 or half hour. so it all depends on your situation, not every situation is the same and not everybody can cope with stress the same way

my school put a max of 16 hours on students working and most that did that have dropped it down to 8 hours or none due to the school commitment.

I work 32 hours a week, plus the lvn program which I do in the mornings and let me tell you it's very stressful! It's stressful for me because I'm trying to support myself, but I'm also trying to study for tests and do the crazy amount of homework they assign. if you don't have any kids, I'd say go for it because you will have no life. I couldn't imagine having kids and working full time and doing this program... I only get one day a week where I'm not at school or work and thats an extra homework day for me....you'll be exhausted, but its possible. I'm doing it now, and so far its okay... If you live with your parents, or are married and have that support, I'd say work like 2 days a week..

I'm in my 2nd semester & I only work about 10 hrs a week. I have two teenage kids, so if I worked more, I would have no time for them, and I can't do that. My program is VERY demanding. We are on spring break right now & I have a peds observational experience scheduled for tomorrow, still need to do my assignment for an OB Lamaze class I observed and I have to study for Monday's pharm test. It was the same thing over Christmas break....we were studying for a calculations test. It's a very rigorous program and you really don't have much down time. I do have a few classmates who work, but most don't. The ones who worked full time have failed out.
Is it difficult to get into? Depends on your program, I guess. I kept hearing how hard it was to get into the program here, but I was accepted the first time I applied. There were 250 applicants for 80 spots when I applied. It's very competitive and for us it comes down how many credits you've earned in related classes, GPA, & ACT score. Good luck!
