Lots of large facilities will host job fairs, some even host them specifically for new grads. If you have a nursing newspaper in your area, that is good place to check.

OR...you can call the facility in question and ask to speak to the nurse recruiter in HR.

I was a Nurse Intern on my Ortho floor last summer. I stayed on that floor last fall as a CNA and was hired my that NM without ever having to apply anywhere else. Now, that's my kinda job searching. My advice...make some contacts or consider working at a local hospital/floor you are interested in being a nurse on. NM's love to hire from within! Good luck.

Well, I will be graduating in 5 weeks and My bestfriend and I went to a nursing spectrum jobfair, walked around , talked to recruiters, gave out our resumes. This happened on friday. On monday I had two calls for interviews! The following week, the hospital that I want to work at Called me. Sooo, either go to jobfairs or pick up the phone to human resource of a hospital you are interested in and set up an interview!

I got a postcard. I called, went and checked the place out, and now I work there. BUt I applied at various places, and checked out different places. It all just depends.

You normally get an idea where you want to work thru clinicals. I did clinicals at my hospital while in school and they hired my as a cna and when I graduated they just transferred my right into a nursing position. No interviews or anything... I could not be happier working anywhere else... Also the nurse week website host job fairs in every state and those are just fun to go to for fun. I went just for all the free t-shirts, hemostats, tape measures, mugs, and i even won a littmen.

Most hospitals have online applications on their website.

I do NOT want to stay at the hospital I'm working at now for lots of reasons. So I did some research for the best hospitals to work at in my chosen specialty area and applied to several online. I got three interviews this way. I'm graduating in June and have a job waiting for me.

It'll work out, you just have to do some legwork, or "webwork" as in my case! :lol2:

I was suprised to find out that most hospitals around here start recruiting/hiring the spring new grads for July/August starting dates in January! I was hired for my first choice specialty this January (woo hoo!) and won't start until mid/late August. I know that by the time many of my classmates got around to looking, many of their first choices were filled. There are still many openings (an almost endless supply, it seems), but if you have a specialty area or a specific hospital you want to work in, apply early and keep in touch with the recruiter.

Good luck to you! Consider doing an externship over the summer between your last two years. This experience ended up being a big part of my being hired (and it wasn't in the same institution or in the specialty I will be working in).

Five weeks left!!
