Hello future class!
I got accepted into Spring 2021 at Wilkes University (BSN-MSN PMHNP): Anyone starting with me?
Anyone doing bedside or thinking of leaving bedside while going to school? Are you going to work FT/PT/PRN? What specialty are you working?
I am looking for other options besides bedside- I am absolutely physically/mentally drained ?
So excited to begin ?
hello! I am applying for Spring 2021 and I'm not sure if I'd be able to meet the deadline. requesting transcripts takes time and I don't even know the next step after that!
about the placement, here is what my counselor told me--We do have a clinical placement team that will assist in placement near your surrounding area if needed.

Oh you’ll for sure make the deadline! They only want the transcript from your last degree, an application, and resume. That’s it. Almost too easy, TBH.

in other universities, I read they have an interview, an essay writing and the class are limited to a number of students.. they don't do those kind of stuff?

Recently found out I've also been accepted for this Spring. I'm so excited!

No, they don’t. Their website has it all laid out! Did your counselor not set you up with an application and ‘next steps’ email? I would just email and ask for one!

I was just reading other blogs and found that they have other stuff after the application and evaluation of grades..
I do think they evaluate grades and work history, but honestly it seemed to me if you checked all those boxes you’re in. I emailed last week about acceptance rates, etc. When they reply back I’ll make sure to update here!
Hello everyone! I too have applied to Wilkes for the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program for Spring 2021. And my admission counselor name is Denise. She was very nice. And she did emphasize that they guarantee clinical placements. She said that several times during our conversations. Because I explained to her that I’m currently attending Fairleigh Dickinson university brick-and-mortar in Teaneck New Jersey where I live. I was supposed to start my clinicals this coming January 2021 in the psych NP Program. But I’ve been unable to find a clinical site on my own. And my advisor there told me that the school is not able to help me find a preceptor. They said they told us from the very beginning that it was up to the student to find a preceptor. Which is true but I never thought that they would leave us hanging like this. So now I’m stuck. I am simply going to transfer, even though most schools in the graduate program will only allow anywhere from 9 credits to 12 credits transferred. Which means it’s like starting all over again for me. But Wilkes is definitely one that I’m considering. Another one that I am thinking of is Northern Kentucky University. They have an online program and they also say they help with the clinical placements. Another one Is Monmouth University in Jersey. Rose Knapp is the director there and it’s a Hybrid. I attended an information session via zoom. And the advisor there was shocked to learn that fairly Dickinson does not help students find clinical placements. They say that Monmouth definitely have never had a student needing to drop out or sit out a year because the student was unable to find a preceptor. So I’ll make up my mind in the next month or so as to which of these universities I’ll be going to. Good luck everyone!

I agree, a school that guarantees clinical placement has my vote. I've heard to many horror stories. You mentioned other schools, by chance have you heard anything about Spring Arbor University?
No I haven’t heard of that one. I’ve searched the web countless times and it amazes me that there are still schools out there that I have not heard of. I will definitely Google it and look into it now that you mentioned it. I don’t know if they have online programs though.

Yes! I spoke on the phone with an admissions counselor yesterday. She was very nice and informative. She stated that they take your zipcode and work from in to out, up to 40 miles from your home. They do take your input into account (if you wanted a specific sub specialty like addictions) but they can’t guarantee that within 40 miles. She also stated that they are now allowing up to 50 hours of tele clinicals. This is a new program within the NP programs at Wilkes, so I’m not sure if any classes have actually been placed with preceptors yet. I asked specifically about out of state students (I live in FL) and she stated that it did not matter which US state you were in.
Thank you so much! I haven’t been able to find many students in/graduated from the program yet. It’s really sounding pretty great.
