WIA for LPN school

U.S.A. Florida

Published

anyone out there recently go through the wia program in broward county to get into lpn school?

i'm in the process of doing so and wanted to know your experience.

anything i should be aware of, like what costs they do and don't cover, etc.????

I e-mailed Central Florida WIA on Friday and still haven't received a response back. I wanted to know if I could get the job search requirement waived, seeing as I will be attending a full-time LPN program. :( If they haven't emailed me back tomorrow I'm going to give them a phone call and hopefully be able to set up some sort of appointment.

It doesn't help that my school (Orlando Tech) doesn't really give a specific date that tuition is due. I'm guessing sometime in December. The financial aid lady didn't even seem to know specifics! But I need to know NOW so I can get my fin. aid situated. Argh.

I'm not sure on the job search thing. I wish that was the case. I'll add it to my ever-growing list of things I need to ask/do. :D

on the application they gave me for WIA, it included a page where i had to put down job search results. from what i was told, its just to show that you are what they call a "dislocated worker" (not able to get a job in the field you were initially in).

ive found it very hard to actually get in contact with someone over at the WIA office. messages and emails have not worked for me so far. :banghead: and as a matter of fact, im actually going to WIA today and sit there and hope i can see my caseworker. ive learned that not every WIA office is the same, as some advised me that they had a good experience. every office is different, i guess because of their case loads. ive been dealing with WIA since february and ive been jumping through hoops to get things done. but in the end, i know it will be worth it.

so my advice to you is this, go to your WIA office (they should have specific days for walk-ins) and wait it out til youre able to speak to someone and get answers to your questions.

have you already been accepted to orlando tech? i was only able to find out the exact amount of tuition for my school when i received my acceptance letter (it included registration info and tuition costs).

i hope this helps!

Wow, I'm sorry to read some are having the "WIA" blues. I can contact my WIA casemgr by email. I'll get a response in 24 to 48 hrs.

The job search is to show that you can not obtain a job in your field (previous). Again, Each office is different. But, the job search should reflect each county. Hopefully, things will continue to go smoothly with me.

Make sure that you send in your monthly worksheet and your grades. There is something else to turn in too..

yes, i had the "WIA BLUES", but everything is ok now. saw my wia counselor yesterday and she should have my voucher on monday (keeping my fingers crossed). :yeah:

though it took a long time and had me extremely worried about not being able to start school on time, it all worked out and now im even more excited to school. let the countdown begin......october 26th here i come!!:D

Can anyone tell me how much they pay for the RN program and what schools are accepted? I just moved to Florida and went to the orientation not really knowing what it was, admissions at my school (Everest University) steered me in their direction so I assume they are on their list. I went to the orientation and am waiting to take the TABE test. Thanks.

Umm, I need some to make sure that I am right. I thought WIA only paid for 1 yr of school. It must be a program that you will graduate in a yr or yr and couple of months. Can you ask your local WIA counselor? Good luck
