Why does the VA draw blood?

I have never had blood drawn for employment before, does anyone know why the VA draws blood as part of pre-employment?

I think it sounds as if you have the job! I don't think they would go through the physical part if you wern't hired. Congratulations!

I have had blood drawn as part of pre employment. It was to check for immunity to MMR, chicken pox, etc.

I had to for the same reason...

I've had blood drawn for every healthcare job I've held. This isn't exclusive to the VA.

I've NEVER had blood drawn for employment purposes except way back in 1996 when I first started as a hospital CNA, and that was to check titers. Had to pee in a cup every time, though. ;)

You may have had evidence of titers, but you still need a TB gold for many employers, and some do it annually.

I would have had blood drawn for employment at my current job but I provided copies of my titers. Some hospitals are starting to do a 10 year rule on titers though but none around where I work. I also got out of any shots I needed except the Tdap because I forgot my vaccination record in the car so the infection control/something else strongly preferred I get it due to the ambulance/working in the ER/fire department/nursing clinicals/paramedic clinicals. I was crazy back then.
