I happen to think it's all revenue-driven. Much like NYS allows a bazillion attempts at the NCLEX; they don't care how many times someone fails it, as long as they keep sending in those fees, well...they'll be happy to have it. I've noticed I'm not getting any decreases in MY fees, though, no matter how much the BoN rakes in!

I have been an LVN/LPN for 28 yrs. I am licensed in both NY; which was my original State of licensure, and CA; where I am currently practicing for 17 of those 28 years. I took an extensive IV certification in NY in the early 90's. It was a program which was accredited by NY State, and frankly, after comparing notes with many RN friends (and my husband who is an RN), we've all concluded the certification that I took was way more detailed and intense. When I moved to CA, all I needed to do to obtain my CA LVN license was to pay a large registration fee to the State, and low an behold, I was licensed. The part that wasn't transferable however, was my IV training. The State of CA wanted me to go through the entire process again! Even though NY & CA have licensure resciprosity !!!What the heck??!!!I said to heck with it because I am tired of having to re-prove myself as an LVN! I'm very annoyed that my IV certification as an LVN was worthless, yet an RN in the same situation, no IV recert necessary, no do they have to reprove their skills! Is it just me or does anyone else feel there should be changes in the system??
