Why are some staff nurses such HATERS!

They walk around grumbling all day about you getting paid more than them. They think you should work harder because you are making a few more dollars. As if they can't work agency too!
Some nurses are so sad!

I work as a staff nurse and an agency nurse. Some places they can be really rude and at others very nice.

I feel some are not rude because we are agency but because they are just unhappy period. They probally are just as bad when we are NOT there. I just go in and do the best job I can and go home. Kill em with kindness. Be the better person.

It is true, they do, and I am sure the nurses are grateful for any help they receive. But the already stressed nurses don't need to have thrown in their faces how the agency nurse is making more money an hour for the same job and how the agency nurse doesn't need the hospital the hospital needs the agency nurse....We're all in this together, for patient care...if we can't play nice with each other, that will be reflected in our patient care...

Ive NEVER gone into a facility and discussed my pay. Actually agency pay is not much more than core staff anymore. My regular job did not give overtime so I would work a lot of agency. I know most of my friends that work agency do it for the flexable hours. We never know when and if we will be cancelled or how many hours we will have a week, if any. I love agency work but now I have to have a full time job with benefits and retirement. (Though some agencies do have benefits).

I think the facilities are the ones who throw it in their own nurses faces. How many times have you heard "Please work so we dont have to pay a gazillion dollars to agency"? Exaggeration. But I hear that all the time at my full time job.

I want to hug the agency nurses when they come in.

i have worked agency for 3 1/2 years. i have never experienced the negative attitudes that some nurses seem to have had. people are usually happy to see you because they will have less of a pt load. the only times that i have witnessed staff being unhappy with agency is when this one agency nurse was very unflexible with the assignment she would work. she would basically come in and say- i'm only going to work on this unit or i'm going home. i think it has a lot to do with attitude, i've had days where i worked a 16 hour shift and worked 4 hours on this unit, 4 hours on another unit, and so on. when it comes to where in the facility i work, i don't care, i will go where i am sent, unless i don't feel that i have the knowledge base to be on the unit. i never discuss my wages, and i try to act like part of the team and not an outsider. i have seen some agency nurses who act like they are just there to pick up a paycheck and don't want to be part of the team.

Thank you! I worked for an agency when I moved and its the best way to find out about where you want to work. I worked my butt off every time and never, ever discussed salary. In my opinion, the staff always had the better end of the stick.... they knew their salary, their shift, their days, they had benefits.. I was just a "temp"... When I would start on a floor, some would not show me around and orient me.. I simply said "well, I'm getting paid to be here whether I work or not.. if you need help, just ask" Attitudes changed dramatically.. A huge misconception is the difference between what the "agency" gets paid and what the agency pays the nurse... Agency nurses make very little more than staff.. with NO benefits... and its not great to be called to go to work with a 2 hour notice... agency nurses ARE nurses first!

I signed up with an agency here in the Tacoma area but haven't yet scheduled...got cold feet...but I really should give my new area a try. Perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised, eh?LOL!
