Why is there a shortage of pediatric nurses?

I know how much COVID affected shortages in med surg, ICUs, and skilled nursing facilities, but I am wracking my brain as to why there is a shortage of nurses that work with pediatric patients.

I know many pediatric patients did get sick with COVID, but not to the extent that adults did.

I'd almost rather loose my licence than violate HIPPA.

Years ago I went for interview at pediatric hospital (well known) after they said all the things that would come out of my pay ie parking, union dues etc I asked what I was expected to live on. But it will look good on your resume!

Yep, that "looking good on the resume" pays the bills ?
