Why do recruiters do this?

Published

Just need to vent. I got an email from a recruiter looking to set-up a phone interview(in response to a resume/application I submitted). I was agreeable to the day and time, moved some of my stuff around to make sure I had plenty of time, had my phone charged, resume in front of me, etc.

She emailed me to confirm, then when she actually called, asked me one, (one!!!) question about the distance I lived (I'm an hour away, do long commutes all the time). Then she said "well, I'll have to ask them if thats ok", and hung up.

Geez, couldn't she have just asked me that question in an email? its not the first time a recruiter has led me to believe it was an actual interview, and just asked one question. ok vent over.

If I never have to deal with a recruiter again it will be too soon. It's been a long while since I've had to withstand interactions with a recruiter, but I remember it well. I have no idea why they do the things they do. But I remember being highly annoyed.

I went back to look at the email she sent, she specifically stated "interview to discuss my experience and skills".

I probably should be happy that it didnt go any further.

That is annoying! I had something similar for a full-time online university position; rather than ask initially via the various back-and-forth emails if I had any part-time work already, the recruiter scheduled an interview and the first question made me decline to go further. They prohibit any outside part-time employment with their full-time staff, and I had already committed a year to a part-time nurse educator residency at another school. I came home from work early, picked up the baby early, made sure my husband was home from school to watch the baby, got myself all freed up, and then spent about 30 seconds on the phone. lol.

I agree, and about 30 seconds was my phone time too. Ugh,lol.
