Ok, I'm a bit frustrated with all of these posts telling us that we shouldn't go into nursing because we need a job and steady income. Sure, I do like to help people, but I need a steady job even more. So, I decided to post a poll to see if we can get some honest answers.

:p

The schedule is great for moms (3 day a week work schedule).

The pay isn't great (it'll be a paycut for me), but it's good pay if you want to work part-time or prn. I may need to do that in the future.

I've wanted to be a nurse since high school many, many years ago. I've never been able to quite put my finger on why. I think it's a variety of reasons-it's an important profession, the medical field interests me, I'm a people person, and I like the idea of being able to help my family/friends.

I'm actually terrified to go into the field of nursing :).

The reasons I'm doing it are to challenge myself and prove that I can, to help people in need, to have security in a job for now and the future, the flexibility to change specialties or areas, that days will never be exactly the same, that I'll get to meet many types of people and that I'll learn how brave I am somewhere in the process :).

I am going into nursing because I can be a wife and a mom and not have to travel for work. At 27 yrs old, working in construction I made $89,000/year working 9-5pm lunch at noon every freaking day. i'm not the type of person to sit all day looking at schedules. I have a husband and a son who are the most important people in my life and yes i want to have my cake and eat it. I want to have my family and have a career. So this is why I am going into nursing. No, its not all about the money, believe me, I have made more and I really hate it when people say "oh is it the money?" What money? I've made the money and i was not happy. I want my family!

i would have to say yes money does play a large factor; put there are other reasons like having a profession that is a source of pride, knowing that you affect lives in a way that very few others outside of the health care field do, be cause i know (personally) this is the person i am

I agree!!!!!!!! My school has actually been really practical about it. My SIL said that in her program, teachers were always talking about how you HAD to have this enourmous passion and desire for nursing or it wouldn't work. Puh-leeze. :p I like helping people too. Don't get me wrong. But I'm not looking to be a volunteer. ;)

First, it is my love of all things medical. Next is the money. Last, it's an interactive field and it's flexible in scheduling and career paths--gotta love that.
