Everyone knows that there is a nursing shortage. However, there are not enough programs designed or catered to the people who really wants to go to school for nursing.
To me there should be more evening programs, there should be more part-time BSN programs. There should be more evening programs that caters to mothers/fathers who have to work during the day, but have the time in the evening. Or just about any person period who needs work, but desires to become a nurse.
There are so many people, who wants to become a nurse, but either their schedules dont mesh with the program in their vicinty, or there is a LONG waiting list etc.......
I believe that if this issue can be addressed then there would not be a nursing shortage and there will not be "great" to hire nurses from abroad.
What do you think about this??????
I think you were kinda tough on your last statement..I will still donate to schools if I had the finances. After all it is not about them, but about the overall program.
I re read my post and I see where you are coming from on that statement! I would not donate money to this particular nursing program, unless the money was going to make the changes that NEED to be made!! I would donate to the schools EMS education..as this is the same school I went to for that and had a great experience and recieved a great education!!
The problem is I think so many people think they need to donate thousands of dollars to make a real difference.
Think about it. How many times in nursing school would you have been thrilled if someone gave you $100 to buy a book or a gift certificate for Danskos or a Walmart card to buy groceries.
When it comes to paying for education pennies count.

You know what you are so right. I can associate with that. You made an EXCELLENT point!!!!!!!

Sounds good. Hopefully I can do the same for my school one day.
In the State of Florida as well as in other states I suspect, a lot has to do with Politics. Nursing schools/programs are very political here in Florida with little common sense injected into the decision making such as the shortage. External Programs like Excelsior had to sue the state Board of Nursing to be accepted in Fl and the same will be true for other nontypical nursing programs. A person from the Fl board of nursing recently told me "That is the only way Indiana State's External degree program will ever be accepted" here in our state. They don't like competition here in Florida nor do they like any school where they have limited control over. They should all be fired with attitudes like this,,,,

Maybe this is a long shot, but why can't be establish an allnurses scholarship?
We already have tons of folks on this board we know are progressive and all about advancing the profession. Besides I trust the folks here and hey would probably know how to get sponsors to give donations for an allnurses foundation or scholarship.
