Why are Nurses so mean to each other?

Nurses Relations

I can't quite understand it. Nursing students, pre-nursing students and Nurses come here for support and advice but unfortunately they are greeted with a bunch of negativity and discouraged by fellow Nurses. We are professionals. I know it makes it easy to say negative things because you're hiding behind your computer but this is childish behavior.

I understand this behavior is not everyone. I would like to thank those who have been supportive of myself and others.

I don't understand that the amount of time that i was employed superseded the fact that I had bilateral foot pain to the point of not being able to work and my physician placing me on State disability. Isn't it the opinion of the physician, regardless of other factors for one to be able to use State disability, which I've paid into since age 16?

If you weren't employed long enough to qualify for FMLA, then the facility is not required to hold your position. State disability is separate from FMLA. The facility had the legal right to terminate you regardless of your physician's note.

Any time Geordi can be worked into a thread, you know it's great! :) To the topic at hand--I've worked in some pretty crappy environments and can tell you that I've found nurses to be normal human beings. Crazy, right? If you think that a personality transplant to be sweet and kind all the time is conferred with a passing score on the NCLEX, you're going to be very disappointed. Nurses are people, some are nice, some are nasty, most of us are anywhere in between and may vacillate between the two. I often wonder if those who scream the loudest about mean nurses have ever actually worked with others before.

I often think that those who scream the loudest about mean nurses are actually mean themselves. Those who scream the most about bullying seem to advocate bullying behavior.

If you're on State disability, you're not working. So I don't understand the problem.

No problems here, I just wanted my feet fixed! It was all the drama that was involved that I don't understand. Hence, my post under "Why are nurses so mean."

Well I can understand that they might be a little hostile with you going off on leave after only 6 months on the job. Its a pity you couldn't have held out to 12 months then you would have been covered by FMLA for 12 months. Unfortunately nursing isn't like an office job where other people can cover parts of your job while your out.

I'd have to have more details on your abandonment situation to understand why they complained to the board that's a pretty drastic step even for mean nurses.
