  1. First of all congratulations! I've had apps all over the State of Ca and only had one hospital interview. So, I can only tell you the questions I've been asked during that interview and other interviews for RN positions, and also from what I found researching google and books. The dreaded "tell me about yourself." What do you have to offer our facility? Why did you become an RN? What are your short and long term goals? Do you work best in a team environment or independently? RN's need to be both, but work well as a team. Can you give a scenario where you made a difference in your clinical studies? How do you handle conflict. Can you give a scenario? Be professional and focus on the issue, not blame. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Focus on your strengths, and turn around your weaknesses into a positive. Each unit member may ask how you would deal with a patient-care issue from their unit. When I couldn't give a good answer, I would later ask for the right response. This way you learn something too, and when I got the position the interviewer would positively comment on my question. Something in your resume and cover letter made you stand out, try to pinpoint that and work it!! Again, best of luck!

  3. No problems here, I just wanted my feet fixed! It was all the drama that was involved that I don't understand. Hence, my post under "Why are nurses so mean."
  4. I don't understand that the amount of time that i was employed superseded the fact that I had bilateral foot pain to the point of not being able to work and my physician placing me on State disability. Isn't it the opinion of the physician, regardless of other factors for one to be able to use State disability, which I've paid into since age 16?
  5. I'm a new inexperienced and older RN. I went back to school at age 45 and got my ADN 5 years later, when hospitals were limiting the hiring of new grads, so i don't have "2 years" under my belt. I have had three jobs, one as a temp RN for a first grade child, one month at a cancer center, and six months at an endoscopy center. I needed foot surgery (not work-related), told the Director of Nursing way in advance, was refused time off then was terminated when I provided a disability slip and went ahead with my surgery. The same employer then reported me to the BRN for abandonment, and now I have interview with the BRN to save my license. I have never worked in such an ugly, catty, back-stabbing environment with each job during my previous 30+ years of employment. I am not thin-skinned and have always got along well with different types of personalities. School was also hell. I don't care if I ever work as an RN again.
  6. I live in CA and obtained my license in Jan 2010 at age 51. I placed applications at every hospital that was hiring all over the State of Ca to "get in my two years exp.". Indeed.com is a good site to subscribe to. I also viewed hospital websites to apply. Nothing, only one interview for a L&D new grad RN, which I didn't get. My first job was through Maxim temp service, and I recently worked for an endoscopy center, but I had to have foot surgery and they fired me (yes it's legal, employers can do anything they want). After I recover from surgery, I feel confident that I can get a position at a surgery center or something similar. So don't think that if don't have hospital exp that you're not hireable. Good luck! How do I change my profile on my iPhone? Thanks for any advice!
  7. Thank you for your response. My gut instinct in January was to transfer, but no, I decided to stay. Big mistake. I've worked with 4th semester students in skills lab, sim man, etc, and I'm at the same level. I don't understand it. Maybe its my age? I'm 50.
  8. Hi, I wasn't able to proceed to fourth semester this January and offered to retake 3rd. Today I was told by my clinical instructor that she doesn't think I'm ready for 4th. I feel like a target, everything I do is wrong, I talk to the other students and they are making the same mistakes, but don't get any grief. I'm transferring to another school. Diane
