Can I take the Ohio LPN test? & HELP!
I have partly completed an ADN program, but have been dismissed from the program. The teacher said I didn't do good enough in clinicals in cardiac so she failed me even though I did good in all computer and written tests. Now I have been dismissed from the RN program by the nursing dept. reinstatement committee. I appeal to the allied health division and they upheld the nursing department's decision. I am now going to talk to the school ombudsman. I have excellent grades 3.55& GPA (even with my 4 credit hour F figured in) and have never failed a course. I also have a total of 161.5 credit hours at this very large community college in Dayton Ohio. Can I test for LPN without any kind of degree or diploma in OHIO? I only need a total of 27 (clinical) hours to graduate. I am saying that I only need 27 hour to graduate with my ADN. These are all clinical courses. That is 5 - 4 credit hour courses (each 5.5 weeks) and one 7 credit hour course (11 weeks) (all clinical courses). I have completed all the other courses. I have also worked in a hospital as a PCT for 7 months and am looking at getting promoted to a different job. I am getting a lot verbal support from disabilitly services at school, BVR, co-workers, and friends. I wear hearing aids. I am looking for any suggestions and I also want to know if I can sit for the Ohio LPN test NOW? I have 2.5 quarters of clinicals. 1 quarter - long term care, 1 quarter - Med-Surg in a hospital, .5 quarter (5.5 weeks) in a mental health facility. The teacher failed me in Cardiac clinicals (5.5 weeks) ending right before Thanksgiving Nov. 2007. ANY help or suggestions are appreciated. CAN I SIT FOR THE OHIO LPN TEST NOW? Thanks, BEV

failed clinicals dismissed from RN program
below is my original posting. 01-22-2008, 05:28 pm beverlydianne registered user join date: jan 2008 posts: 5 country: united states assistance - failed clinicals dismissed from rn program permalink my teacher failed me in clinicals in cardiac. i had a needlestick the last day of clinicals, but she said that wasn't why she failed me. i called her after going to get my needlestick checked out, and she said i was going to fail clinicals. she said that she had other things on me. i took the last test plus the final after that. i knew i had to take the course again, and i wanted to learn as much as i could. my written and computer test grades were all passing (above 80%). i applied for reinstatement and i got a letter stating: "the nursing resinstatement committee has reviewed your petition for reinstatement into nursing 222. the committee has determined that you are ineligible to reinstate and have been dismissed from the nursing program." it goes on to say that i can contact career planning and placement for assistance in selecting other occupations. there wasn't even a signature on the letter. it just said "nursing reinstatement committee". i could tell from the first day of class that the teacher definitely did not like me. one day in clinicals she said i made her nervous. if i can take cardiac over, i only have four (5.5 week) classes and one 11 week class after that to finish. there are 2 other teachers that teach this class. people who fail theory are given 2 tries and sometimes 3 tries to pass the same class. there are some nursing students that have failed 2 or 3 different nursing classes and are still in the rn program. i have never come close to failing a class before. i have excellent grades. i have worked as a pct in a hospital on weekends since september so i am getting more hands on experience all the time . i am waiting for the appeals process form to be e-mailed to me so i can fill it out. if i don't get reinstated, the nursing department will have a long battle to fight. i have received much verbal support from other students and rn graduates. if i have to go outside of the school, i have already checked into some organizations that are willing to help me. i plan on taking a phlebotomy course, in the meantime, until i can get reinstated. this requires 25 hours of clinical experience. i think this will help strengthen my clinical skills. please give me your input. bev monday of this week i went and talked with the chair of the nursing dept. she showed me my clinical evaluation for my 5.5 week cardiac clinical. she said i had already seen this, but i told her i had not seen it before. the only written feed back that i received from my teacher, previously, was on my 3 (45 pages) process tool and care plan forms. we were supposed to be required to turn in weekly clinical journals. i did that. the teacher is supposed to reply back on these each week. she never did. i know that i need to stay positive and focus on what i did right during clinicls. i am also learning a lot on my job as a pct at a hospital that i started in sept. of 2007. my school is a large 2 year community college. the chair said that about half of the students, that are dismissed from the rn nursing program, get reinstated. when i get back from vacation next week, i am going to write my reinstatement letter to the allied health division reinstatement committee.the chair of the nursing dept. said that she would look at my reinstatement letter and advise me on anything that needs to be changed before i submit it. i would appreciate any suggestions. bev

failed clinicals dismissed from RN program
After 3 calls in 1 week, the chairman of the nursing dept. called me back. I tried to find out why I wasn't reinstated after being given an F in Clinicals (NSG 222-Cardiac). She said that she couldn't tell me, but I had a right to look at my records. She said that she was not on the reinstatement committee. She was surprised when I told her that I never got an evaluation from my teacher at the end of the course. My teach just told me over the phone that I failed clinicals after I had my needle stick. (see original posting at top). I still passed test #4 (a test on the computer) and the final (a written test) after the needle stick. I am going to school on Monday to do look at my records and I have a meeting scheduled with the chairman of the nursing dept. at 9:00. Even with the F, I still have more than a 3.5 GPA. After I talk to the chairman of the nursing dept., I am going to the school library to type up my appeal process form. Then I am going to turn it in. She told me to turn it into the nursing dept, but the head of the reinstatement committee for the Allied Division told me to turn it in to her. I'm going to check with the allied health division head before I turn it in. A lot of the procedures in writing by the nursing dept. have not been followed by the nursing dept. Also, feedback that the teacher was supposed to be provided throughout the class was not given to me. Any suggestions?

Nursing with a Hearing Loss
Go to the Bureau of Vocatinal Rebabilitation. In Ohio the BVR is a division of Ohio Rehibilitation Services Commission (a state office). Be sure that you get a counselor that is familiar with audiology and hearing loss, if possible. They may pay for you to have hearing aides and an electronic stethoscope. They paid for me. I am a nursing student. If it concerns you, then it is a problem. They will explain the whole process and what you need to do. I wish you much success. student with mild hearing loss
I am a nursing student. I have a hearing loss. I would suggest that you contact the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. This is a state office. In Ohio it is a division of Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission. They may pay for you to get an electronic stethoscope, if you have a hearing disability. I have an E-Scope (about $400) and it works great. I wish you much success. Bev :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:idea::redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe
