Why was it hard for you?

Published

I start in the fall and I am so excited! I have read many forums on here and come to this site almost everyday. I keep seeing that it was hard for most and some just loved nursing school. But I am interested into more of WHY was it "hard" for you... Is it that you had to hold down and job and school? Kids? Where the test mostly What is something rather than multiple choice or matching? Was it the Math? Too time consuming? see my point? I know it is a lot of information in a short time, so a lot of studying will be my life. But what made it hard for you?

LOL Yes, I am a newbie and I am sure you are thinking, Ah she will see!

I just want to be more prepared! I am ready and wanting my two years to pass by quickly

Honestly, compared the Chemistry, Biology and A&P,negle its way easy. You'll be fine :-) Just don't consider it so easy that you neglect to study.

1. Overthinking the problem: nursing tests want you to think "simple," unlike the real world.

2. Random moving hoops to jump through: "oh by the way, we decided you all have lab tomorrow morning. Show up or you don't pass."

3. Too many outside commitments: my own choice.

Being an RN now, everything in school that was "hard" has made me a critical thinker. All those late nights looking up meds, dilutions, push rates, careplans, interventions... it sticks with me today and helps me prioritize. I kind of wish some instructors would have pushed us harder. I might be the crazy one here saying that! Just know, all the crazy hard stuff crammed into your head will be oneday useful to save a life. :)

Learning to think like a nurse...'nough said!

I notice people that really go crazy about everything and every little detail and study morning-noon-night have the hardest time for some reason.

I agree with this, b/c I'm one of those people. It's really hard for me to chill out and relax when I feel like I should be working on that paper, or I should be studying for that test, or I should be mastering that physical assessment skill, etc., etc. Because I'm in an accelerated program, that makes it doubly hard. My suggestion is that you *have* to figure out a way to find balance--early on, before you lose your sanity! Even if you don't feel like you have time to hang out with your friends for a few hours, make the time. Even if you don't feel like you have the time to exercise, do it anyway. Get enough sleep. Try to eat well. If you take the time to take care of yourself, you'll notice that your ability to concentrate will improve, and the time will be well-spent. Life is all about balance; nursing school is no different.
