Why do we continue to do it?

Simple question.. why do we continue to do it? Certainly not the money? Absolutely not the FUN?

Why do we keep being nurses? Well better yet, why do we keep working as nurses? What would they do if we stopped?

Specializes in MDS/Office.

I ONLY do it for the money.

I ONLY continue because I am in a non-patient care position.

If my husband's Disability goes thru, I will go part time.

Nursing has wrecked my health.

I'm so sick of it all..... :(

Specializes in Med Surge, Tele, Oncology, Wound Care.

Aww....I am sorry....

I have been nursing for 5 years and I can say that it has affected my health greatly. I have to find a way to continue doing what I love doing and not letting it affect me...even at home...

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.
I'm only staying for another year or two, then I'm out. I have the chance to learn case management and a few other things, so I'm going to train in that, then apply for a job in that area.

I am only doing nursing now for the money (the almighty dollar, SIGH), get my debts paid, then I'm gone baby!

It's 5.37am over here and I LOATHE getting up early. A job with decent hours and enough sleep would be a blessing for me. No more earlies! Only one more to go - yah!

Exactly.. If i could get into case management, I could do that. But even with my experience It is still untouchable for me..or Staff development.. that is my ultimate job.. but again never been able to break into it. And no I am not willing to get MSN on the chance I could get into the field. I had considered it but???? Where I have applied they were hiring ASN RN. I was even willing to agree to BSN though I could not see how it would make me better.

Life is too short to be unhappy! I used to be the happy nurse.. I mean like I was really happy but then stopped.

I even feel guilty not working as a nurse. I have interviews this week....but I just do not know anymore.

Because we can! Not many people have what it takes... and we do :)

Actually we're the largest healthcare occupation. Our numbers are in the millions. Factor in CNAs, and, well, there are an awful lot of people who can do what we do and who "have what it takes."

You can consider it something special to be a nurse, but it's not exceptional or rare.
