Why Bother?

I'm sorry your review/eval was such a disappointment. I would feel the same too if I worked my butt off and it wasn't good enough for them. I don't have much experience with this situtation as I'm still in school but hope that when my time comes that things will change (wishing really hard).

Not meeting productivity? Sounds like factory work more than nursing. I am sorry you're being treated so poorly. Maybe it's time to have a talk with your superior or if possible, find another job. Don't let 'em get you down!

I work in Medical Management, and it is factory work, processing requests for procedures and services as fast as we can. And even though I'm not working in the clinical area anymore, the stress is just as horriffic, because everyone wants everything yesterday...and there are not enough nurses here, either, resulting in burnout and turnover. I just don't appreciate being told that I am not working hard enough, when the person behind me is watching a movie on a DVD player with her son...when she is supposed to be working, too. :angryfire

You know....this is something about nursing that I CAN'T stand! It is so juvenile and it makes you feel like crap!!!! It's almost as if we are trying out for cheerleading and while we wait for acceptance the "group" or powers that be, discuss ways in which they can tear us apart! There are rarely any thank yous, and job well done's being handed out! We really need to support each other instead of tearing each other apart!!!!

Ugh.....sorry to hear that......it's a shame, isn't it? I used to work for a nurse manager that said she would NEVER compliment us or give us "pats on the back" , because it's our job and what we're supposed to do......Hmm......even those of us who were willing to go the extra mile, work overtime, and help the new staff? Thanks for the encouragement, lady! .......

Of course, she was kinda psycho anyway.......we would look DIRECTLY at her and say "good morning" to *try* and start the day off nicely, and she wouldn't respond.....greeeeeeeeat manager, huh? NOT!

I see...yes, having a deadline can be really tough! I am good friends with a few of the MDS nurses at my place of work and everyone thinks all they do all day is sit around and that they have an easy job. It's quite the contrary. My friend even had a heart attack partly from the stress and another quit...just up and walked out one day. PLEASE take it easy and take care of yourself :kiss

I have my evaluation coming up soon and I'm a little worried about it. I give 110% while I'm at work and feel like I am very productive, improving in critical thinking (new nurse) but I just know there will be negative comments at the eval. Of course maybe I need to prepare myself to accept constructive criticism.

It just seems managers always make comments about what she need to differently as a unit and how we are weak in an area. Praise is few and far between.

Agree, unless you are in the clique and they can do no wrong, while you can do no right, or at least not much and you can't get any credit for it.

Never set your own standard for an eval higher than that which will be given you "Safe enough to work, needs work in a few areas". You'll be constantly disappointed. Nursing evals NEVER will say exceptional, but they will never say "Bad" [so why didn't you fire em? is implied]. As long as at the eval you are told you are not fired [which of course you won't be during an annual eval] then be satisfied. The managers position is not justified if not constantly looking for areas of improvement in those she manages...its a catch 22. Those of us in nursing any real amount of time have come to expect an "average" sounding eval. In the response portion of the eval [your hospital does do this right?] be sure to write, these are the letters of appreciation I've recieved, these are the times when I go our of the way [for me, since I speak spanish, i get pulled to translate alot while noone does my tasks but some does 'watch my patients'] , and this is why I am an exceptional nurse [see above]
