Why Aren't Call Bells Answered?

Nurses General Nursing

Actually, that is a very good idea and I would have no problem giving a nurse a tip if he or she provided good service. When my family member was in the hospital, I became friendly with another woman who also had a loved one in the hospital. She told me how she was bringing donuts to the nurses everyday in order to ensure her family member got good care. Pretty sad, isn't it? If nurses simply responded to patients' and visitors' requests, there wouldn't be so much anger directed at them.

What is it about this particular subject you don't get, Dolphin?! A number of us made it VERY clear in your last thread that we don't appreciate being flamed..........the only reason I'm even responding to this one is to suggest that you get counseling for this unhealthy anger you appear to have against nurses. Good luck. And please go away.:(

Could you get a life, already - TROLL??????????????

Don't go away. Please stay, and read as many posts here as you can, so that you can understand the conditions we work under. I became a nurse to take care of people, not to ignore them. I often go home feeling guilty and upset about the minimal care my patients have gotten. I feel like it's my fault even though I can't force the administration to give us adequate staff. I feel like it's my fault, even though I don't set the ridiculously low reimbursement rates that force the hospital administration to understaff us. I feel like it's my fault, even though I have no control over the vicious cycle that drives nurses and aides away from the profession, exacerbating the staffing crisis. And, worst of all, I can see that my patients and their families think it's my fault, too.

You could tip me, you could bring me donuts galore, but that would not get you better care. I'm already doing the best I can. And, I am just as angry as you that sometimes that just isn't good enough.

I am convinced that caring for my patients means that I have to start getting politically involved. I would encourage you to do so also. PLease use whatever bad experiences you have had, and whatever moral outrage you feel to help create change.

There is something particularly magical about a white Christmas, isn't there?

It even snowed at my house the other night.......first time since we've been in Oregon that we've seen snow this early! It didn't stick, of course, but it was so pretty, and I ran around the house waking everybody up to see the snow fall. Turns me into an instant 8-year-old, I tell you.........the only negative quality snow has, as far as I'm concerned, is having to actually GO anywhere in it. I had a near-fatal spin-out on ice about 7 or 8 years ago, and I've been terrified of driving on freezing surfaces ever since. I'm glad we don't have snow all that often......but once in awhile is fun!:D
