Who's doing Kaplan now????

Nursing Students NCLEX

hI,

I just registerd for my Kaplan complete review! I kept going back and forth on whether to take it or not. I found out that my school set up an account with Kaplan Philadelphia, so Students fromour school recieve a discount. I pain $375 for the course instead of $500.

I am wondering who else is taking Kaplan during this time. My class will start Jan7 and ends on Jan22. I already have access to my online resources. I am trying to get started today. Kaplan provides a nice syllabus and checklist for studying and I am gonna try to use it.

WHat's everyone else doing who has kaplan? are you gonna start with questions, or start with content. I am going to start with content, because I am weak in some areas. I am a pretty good test taker, but I would like to brush up on my content.

Well good luck to everyone! look forward to chatting with you all!

a little update. my class is almost over. the sessions havent been all that helpful. i find it almost annoying just doing questions all night and i dont like or use kaplan's decision tree.

i am still not doing so hot with the qbank. my scores are still low 60s. occasionally i will get an 80 or 90% but it all depends on when i am taking the quiz, and how focused i am.

i did do well on the diagnostic exam. i scored in the passing range, which completely surprised me because that test was sooooo hard.

well, i just have my readiness exam on tuesday, then i can finally send off my paperwork. i will be waitng for my ATT soon. I plan on going back over the kaplan book, videos, and doing questions. this may sound weird, but i actually enjoy doing questions!

I went through the Kaplan review and was scoring just like you are. Also, I was finding the decision tree annoying. BUT, I did my NCLEX on Tuesday and I PASSED!! The Kaplan prep actually paid off, and I found myself using the decision tree for some of the questions. I also found that I was able to think through the questions more clearly because of going through the process with the Kaplan instructor, so hang in there!

I recently started the Online Complete Review. I failed the NCLEX back in late November. It cut off at 75 questions. A former classmate of mine gave me some advice: "Don't study the same way you did before?" He also said: "Don't expect Kaplan to be a magic door that opens up."

I took both to heart and signed up for the Kaplan course by paying the $418. I had used Saunders and the NCBSN Review. Now, I do not agree with him about Kaplan because I do feel as though a magic, if not powerful, door has opened up for me. I am understanding that there is a difference between real life nursing and NCLEX perfect world nursing. I feel as though I am going to pass it for sure this time if I make the most out of the course and put the time in.

I have fallen in love with the Review of Questions videos. I really needed to know, besides rationales, how to arrive at the correct answer. It keeps my interest and I can watch the videos and guess at the answers without feeling as though I am truly studying.

I did the diagnostic exam and scored 50-something%. My Course Book is slightly delayed so I went straight to the Review of Questions. At some point I need to do Review of Content but I will most likely tackle those after I complete the videos.

Any ideas as to how to tackle the Question Trainers? Do I do those at the same time that I review the content? Any other thoughts on how others have found Kaplan to date?

Thanks!

if i remember correctly, the kaplan syllabus reccommends doing the trainers before reviewing content. after taking the trainer, if you score below 65% you should review the exam and read all the rationales. if you score less tha 55%, the recommend you use the book and videos the review the content that you are weal in.

as far as my opinion on Kaplan, i do love their questions and the review question video is great. you are right in that Kaplan is great in helping you to understand that there is a huge difference between NCLEX world and the real world. i think that is key in passing the NCLEX, because so much is different in NCLEX world

I found that what worked for me was to first review the content and then take the trainers, because then you don't feel so lost and overwhelmed and you retain the material better. Also, the rationales make more sense if you already have reviewed the content.

I saved the last trainer because it has 265 questions to mimic the nclex, so I did that one last, a couple of days before the NCLEX, to simulate the exam experience.

Good luck!!

I used Kaplan I thought it was the most like the NCLEX. Many of my classmates didn't and they didn't do so well, including those 4.0's. Oh, you will be using the decision tree during the NCLEX, so don't hate too much.

Hello everyone. Im new on here. I failed NCLEX-RN back in November of 2011. I actually ran out of time on question #206. I was 9 months pregnant then. Anyhow, I am now ready to retest since I have recovered from delivery and being a new mom for the 2nd time. I have a 3 yr old to-be next month and a 3 month old :-) Long story short, I just purchased the Kaplan Anywhere Online course. A little confused about where to even begin. Do I go in the order listed on the syllabus??? It doesnt make sense to me. I would think the Diagnostic would be the 1st assignment completed then review the content for your weak areas, but thats not the case. They want you to complete QT 1-3 first. Someone please enlighten me! My online lectures begin May 14. They are Mon,Tue,Wed, Thur (930pm-1230am) I figured that would work since the kiddos are in bed by 9pm...Help!
