We were forced to buy a crummy, cheap scope. I can't wait to be done, because I have a Littmann from my EMT days. Luckily, we had a large color selection to choose from, so hopefully, there won't be too many duplicates in my clinical group.
Since I'm not keeping this piece of junk forever, I just grabbed a Dymo labeler and printed out a label with my name and the name of the school I am attending lest we get parted. I then covered the whole thing in tape, wrapped it around the tubing, then taped it closed. Someone could cut it off, but I doubt they'd steal a $20 scope when there are Littmanns and Ultrascopes to be had. I don't like the cloth covers because I've always felt like they are an infection control issue- am I the only person who feels this way?

absoluely not. I despise the cloth covers. Pediatrics offices love to use them but in reality kids really aren't too scared of the steths if they're able to handle them and get aquainted. Trying to disguise the equipment in those horrible cloth germ magnets is really bizzarre to me.
Scrubs stores sell steth tags that you can write your name on. I have a small circle of beads on a wire that spell out my name that go around it. Even with that though doctors and nurses have tried to walk away with it. Keep an eye on it at all times (I wear mine around my neck my whole shift) or put something that personalizes on it.
I bought a tag for mine, look at the clearance stuff in the stores, I got one with a flamingo on it for $5. But keep the stethoscope with you people don't really pay attention and walk off with the one that is closest to them. I wouldn't pay good money for a stethoscope until you graduate less likely it will walk off.

I just started nursing school, and my school is really nice and gives us each our own clinical kit that includes a steth, BP cuff, scissors and a penlight...the problem is, they're all the same!
Now, I don't know if I'll stay with the steth for long since we haven't actually used them yet...but until then, when we're in lab and such and I have 40 other people who have the same steth as me, what can I do to make mine stick out so I'm less likely to lose it?
