Just wondering how many other nurses there are out there that is ready to give up on LTC and change to smething else because of all the COrp. bull and crap they jam down our throats. :angryfire
I was just let go from a LTC Corp of about 300+ homes across the U.S. Worked for them for 4 years as DNS and then as a consultant. One of the facilites I have been asigned did not have a good survey and was placed in a stop placement. The area V.P. needed to come up with someone to blame and that was ME the lonley "just a consultant" as the VP keeps telling the us.
I have seen this V.P. who has been with the company just a little over a year continue to do this.
It seems Corps. do NOT care about resident care anymore. They do not follow their own mission statement. So many LTC facilites are in a crisis for staff and they treat staff like they are the scum off their shoes.
It has always amazed me people of power can not do my job as they are not a nurse they are bean counters. They make the rules and the P&P and then shove them on us and inform us if you do not follow their rules they will go after your LN lic. Now wait a minute I have a standard of care and nurse practice act to follow. I pass a federal state exam. They graudated from a college and that is IT. They took no state exam.
So what right do they have to threaten my lic.
Can they be charged with abuse and neglect of a resident? They are the ones that come up with staffing grids and numbers and budgets that are so low there is no way anyone could even begin to give decent care.
So sorry... I am just really tied of the politics that seems to go with giving patient care. I must have missed that day in nursing school. I sure do not remeber having any classes relatred to this type of crap.
The really sad thing is I am a great nurse and love old poeple and the deadicated staff in nursing homes, but can not handle it anymore after this. 15 + of working in Long Term Care from LN to DNS to consultant. It is time to stand up for the rights of the elderly and their needs and not the bean counter needs and the profits of their pockets so they can drive cars fancy cars and live in big fancy houses and big salaries.
Anyone else feel my pain...
It is one thing to pay attention to the business end of things! That's being fiscally responsible! It's another thing to amass large "profits" to build a corporate structure with lots of "experts" and "chiefs" and no money or perceived need for worker bees! The corporate center looks like the Taj Mahal and the big wigs have benefits and profit sharing out the whazoo. The nursing assistants, however, have to fight over the one hoyer lift they have for seventy residents! Been there, done that, won't go back!

I have only written a couple of posts on this site - both having to do with LTC and the frustrations that go along with it. The first post was "resigning during orientation" and the most recent was a response to "giving meds in a timely manner". In both of these I mentioned much of what you are referring to. We are not alone here - and yes, I certainly do feel your pain.......hang in there (as I am trying to do while looking for another job....). Good luck.
Hi u all!!!! I'm new to posting on this board, please excuss my fumbleing till I get this pat. Had to reply to this thread d/t corp nurses I'm out of work for 6 weeks now and can't find anything in area or out of area. Possible found out why today....missed signing off meds and they are reporting it as a failure to give life sustaining meds to prospective :angryfireI sent you an email. I could not PM you? ( was not a pulled up option)renerian
The goal of these corporations is to push small non profits out of buisness.
I'm so depressed about this I'm thinking of quitting my nursing studies. I ALWAYS wanted to work in geriatrics, have been an aide for years and LOVE it- when, of course, my job isn't IMPOSSIBLE because of staff shortages. WHat about unionizing? Fighting for staffing LAWS. Yes, we little people are getting trampled on, but it does NOT have to be that way. But we will have to really fight.
Thats good to know. I hope to walk into a place like that one day. I have to say most are not that bad, its just this one nightmare ( P.C.H)I have as a homecare nurse that burns me up ! :angryfire
Not all LTC facilities are like that!:angryfireI work at a church affiliated not for profit, that is a wonderful place. In my area there are several "sister" facilities that are just as wonderful. We are also loosely aligned with other facilities with similar philosophies and they are all outstanding facilities.
Thanks for the reply.... have been looking at the lnc threads and am going to contact one of them and see if I have a Legal leg to stand on!!!!! :angryfire Have always been a fighter, looks like this could be a rouse. The goal of these corporations is to push small non profits out of buisness.I'm so depressed about this I'm thinking of quitting my nursing studies. I agree that profits are important, but let us not forget business ethics. Profit at the cost of health, careers, and sometimes even lives? I think not. Perhaps if the shareholders only knew how much the "little guys" and even the residents suffer at the hands of the money-grubbing corporations they too would be appalled. Nurses need to say enough is enough, and stand up for the rights of the helpless and vulnerable, and in so doing, we may just create a more hospitable environment for everyone.
Corporations by design are governed by share holders and unless it is not for profit its gaol is to maximize profits, bottom line whether you like it or not. If I had stock in the company I would want the maximum profits it could make.
Thats fine when the company makes tennis shoes or Suburbans, hell I PROMISE I'm a capitalist. But some things should not be a source of profit- like misery and disease. Its morally WRONG WRONG WRONG. In this country we pay out the nose for our idea of privatizing everything, where other countries have people that live as long and in as good of health and pay a LOT less than us.
Some things should be run for the public interest, and run with the idea that what is important is the quality of life of those involved, staff included. NOT for the fat cat brats. They have enough.

Devil's Advocate...if the company doesn't pay attention to the business end of things, how do y'all think you are going to get your raises?
