The workload for community is pretty doable. I actually learned something in that class because I wasn't scrambling to finish a bunch of busy work every week.

When I had evidence-based last Spring semester there were a couple weeks when there weren't papers due, but quizzes instead. I personally like that better because you put some time into studying, take the quiz, and it's done. I liked that class about the best I have 'liked' any class in this program. When I had community it was more writing than some others, not so much as some. I found it interesting, though because it was something different than my work (hospital). I think I personally spent less time doing evidence work than on doing community--but I've heard the windshield survey is no longer being done so that would change the workload up a bit.

looking for advice or insight
I haven't yet registered for the spring semester, I am looking at 4540 Community Nursing and 4550 Evidence based nursing. Have any of you taken either of these classes and able to comment on the workload. January is a busy month for me and my family. I want to finish this program asap. the second 5 week session I have no classes to take so I don't want to take the off the first.

I'm taking those plus english. We can do anything for 5 weeks :)

Community was a boat load of work when I took it, but without the windshield survey, I think it wouldn't be too bad.

Thank you for all the comments on 4540 and 4550...yes we can do anything for 5 weeks, thanks for the info and the encouragement.

We got an extension on one of the DB this week because she still doesn't have grades posted from last week. At least that takes some of the pressure off.

They got rid of the windshield survey in community. I forget which component replaced it, but it wasn't nearly as tedious as the survey.

I take it next semester... but I see that every time there is a new thread for family... you'd think they would change it up...

Go ahead, whine away, it is maddening the stupid stuff this program puts us through.

I have been working on next weeks assignment because I have family coming and want to have some free time from school. It is more of the same. I just wish the assignments could actually be completed in the 5-6 paragraphs they state in the directions. It's a little crazy. If it's a paper--call it a paper; it's not a discussion board post.

I have the Hartman family. I did the posts based on what we were already given and then added to it. We then were given extra info so I added more. I've been saving my posts as word docs to see what they will add before submitting. I posted mine and saw it was extending. It's done but I'm waiting for others to post so I can finish.

I agree. The first case study I wrote like a paper, introduction, good bridging sentences, solid conclusion. I worked really hard to make this flow like a story and include all of the points they wanted us to address. The feedback I received was that I had good discussion but lost 1 point because it was 7 paragraphs instead of the prescribed 5-6. So this week I did not write in like a paper I simply made 6 headings that incorporated all the data points and wrote a good solid paragraph for each...lets see if I lose points this week?????
