I just had to ask that question? I am not trying to start anything...I see a lot of threads about how much RN's make.... That makes me wonder who is in Nursing ONLY for the money?
I sure as heck am not in it as a volunteer! Of course I am in it "for the money". But please, don't twist that around to mean that I don't care about what I do, and how I do it, and who I do it for. I'm no saintly nun, but I sure as heck am not the devil either.
I went into nursing because I thought I'd enjoy it, that I could be good at it, and that the paycheck would be desirable. Isn't that EXACTLY why ANYONE chooses a career in college, or why anyone returns to college?
I'm wondering why threads like this continue to pop up regularly: what other profession rakes its members over the coals for NOT saying "oh, I have a true calling to do this, the money is not important, I only became a nurse so I could help the poor and sick and suffering. I'd do it for free if only I were wealthy already"!!!!!! Yeah, universities are STUFFED with wannabe lawyers, doctors, engineers, dentists, accountants who really just want to help people and are NOT interested in the paycheck they'll one day receive!
Versus some other JOB/CAREER for the money?Do you really think anyone is going to raise their hand and say yes?
um,
YES! I AM IN IT FOR THE MONEY!!
I know very good nurses that are also. Most of them older nurses. Just because I am in it for the money doesn't mean I don't care about people and don't go out of my way to help them. I guess I am just not all wrapped up in that "Gotta love it to do it right" attitude. I have had other jobs I didn't love and I still was good at what I did. And no!! I am not miserable every day at work. I DO NOT find nursing to be a miserable job. It is rewarding.
Another point of view I differ with most people is that I have had jobs MUCH more difficult than nursing that payed alot less. Maybe as a healthy male with a strong back I am just lucky. I don't find being on my feet all day hard. When I move people/things I use proper form. Sometimes it is mentaly(not emotionaly) tireing but believe it or not, I do not find nursing hard and I do LOOVE the money.
Don't get me wrong. I hope I don't come across like I am attacking anyone elses views/experiences in nursing. Just sharing mine.
