Many of us will be there in spirit with you tomorrow!!!!!! We all commend you for standing up for ALL of our patients and our own mental well being as nurses. This goes for the rest of you across the country that have been out on strike also.
If you click on Nursing News at the top of this site (upper right hand corner) or go to the bottom and click on allnurses.com, it will take you to a list of news articles on what has been going on and then you can click on the articles and read them. What I have been watching for on National news (on TV), is some coverage, that I haven't seen. Guess it is time to ask NBC, CBS, and others why? It is always amazing how hospitals can come up with the bucks to pay those nurses coming in, but can't work things out to alleviate it in the first place, and to create a better situation in the long run at their hospitals!!!! Guess they assumed we nurses would just sit back and take it forever!!! We are all behind you and proud of you!!!!!!!
First of all good luck! it's CRAZY that you have to strike when there is such a nursing shortage. Those cheap hospital administrators ought to be the ones made to empty ALL the bedpans when the strike starts! And don't you believe any of that baloney, they'll start dishing out either. Stay the course. It will turn out better for you, better for your patients in the long run and better for nursing. I heard on the radio a few weeks ago this very conseritive radio talk show host saying that if by the time your forty your NOT making 100 thousand a year, or more, that you've made some bad carer choices along the way. UNLESS your a "nurse or a teacher". I got to thinking WHY NOT nurses? I think we should all write congress and tell them to pass a bill giving each nurse over the age of 40 a check for 100 grand. Think what that would do in terms of recruitment into the profession! Again good luck! You can win this if you all stick together, and don't be scared by any threats, go to the bargining when you can to show your support, and help one another. Good LUCK!
