Who is your idol ?

Have you ever been inspired? WHO has inspired you the most? This was a hard question for me to ponder, and then decide upon. I have been inspired by alot of people: Yuri Gagarin, Michael Faraday, Malcom X, Galileo Galilei, Enrico Fermi, Bruce Lee, Florence Nightingale, Robert Oppenheimer, Madonna, David Bowie etc.

If I had to choose one person who inspired me the most in my life, it would be Alessandro Volta. Imagine 200 years ago - people didn't have a clue about the human body - stuff we take for granded bigtime today. No one could even tell you what makes a human move. But then came Volta. On one afternoon, during a thunderstorm, he noticed that frogs legs that were hanging on a metal wire moved during the lightning. Volta took that observation at face value and now we know that nerve impulses are electrical and chemical, and not mystical. Volta also took it a step further and proved that electricity can be stored in chemicals, and he invented "the battery" which changed life on earth just a little.

Who is your greatest inspiration???

There are lots of people that inspire me, both famous and not. The one that comes to mind at the moment is an RN who I still have the pleasure of working with.

It was one of my first clinical rotations and my instructor told me to unplug (take the Leur lock out of the heplock) my pt's IV so that she could take a shower...........weeeellllllll I unplugged it and did not flush so needless to say it clotted off and my pt had to be restuck, luckily the pt was very forgiving, I kept apologizing to her and this RN who had to restart it. Afterwards when the RN came out in the hall instead of chewing my butt which I expected and thought I deserved she said: What did you learn from this? Thats it, simple stuff but it meant a lot to me.

Hmmmm! Too many people to name! Let's see.... I am spiritually inspired by Jesus The Christ, first and foremost. Then, I am always inspired by my three adult daughters for their determination and strength as overcomers of so much stuff that they have endured in their lives. Watching my grandsons play sports, getting knocked down, getting up again, and getting back in the game with a smile on their faces....that inspires me. My deceased maternal Gramma Lula, my deceased Aunt Mary, and so many other maternal aunts and uncles who made life for me and my siblings as children worth living.

Outside of family, Madonna, Britney Spears, Prince, Patti LaBelle, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, and many more celebrities inspire me.

In nursing, my very best friend and Christian sister, Kim, inspires me. She has climbed mountains in her life that many people doubted her ability to do, but today she is one hell of a nurse! You go Kim! :kiss

I have some "unnamed" role models. I had a family member that was in ICU. The nursing staff not only took care of my family member but the whole family as well. These nurses made a difference on me and my family. I feel that I have an obligation to continue this type of care in my practice. Compassion and understanding with family members has helped all. As we have many new student nurses in our facility, I pass this challenge on to them...to treat more then just the patient but the family as well. The patients respond to this care, family members understand empathy and appreciate the caring attitude and feel a higher level of confidence in the facility, and more prospective nurses go into this profession. It is a win-win situation for all. I owe these nurses from the past so much. They are the unsung hero's and I will spend the rest of ,y working years continuing what I learned from these ladies.

I am inspired by people of vision, and I have been privledged to observe and work with 4 nurses with remarkable vision for nursing. Two started a hospice where I worked and the other two started and continue to lead a telehealth organization where I currently work. I love that they had the vision to think outside the hospital box, the courage to put their vision into action and the tenacity to work for their vision. I also appreciate that they saw something in me what was an asset to that vision.

I am daily inspired by my mother who resides in a nursing home due to a stroke 2 years ago and the amazing men and women who care for her. In my mother I see the fruit of the Holy spirit growing through her adversity, and in her care givers I see everything I cannot be as a nursing. Both humbling and inspiring

When I was young: Boy George (what was I thinking??):imbar Maybe I was just strange and was facinated by someone stranger than myself.

Old enough to know what a truly special person is: My Great- Grandmother. Here's why. Her and my Great-Grandfather (whom I never knew) were married at a young age. He died in her late 40's and she never remarried or dated and lived to 85 years old. She always talked about going home to be with him again. Talk about true love! That is just the beginning of what a wonderful woman she was. To know her was comparable to being under an angels wings.

AND most of all, JESUS for the exceptional acceptance and miraculous gifts he gave all of us!

Idolized.....from very young age.....my brother.........what he liked I liked.......learned a lot from that too.........remember somethin' he wrote to me.......many years ago........"never forget to be selfish"

A particular neurosurgeon and a particular plastic surgeon I closely acquainted with in younger days.....

A particular opthalmologist knew mucho' last year.........

Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey because through the turmoil they have endured growing up they still persevered. My clinical instructor who told me to keep my eyes on the prize when I wanted to just quit. Maya Angelou's famous poem, Still I rise! Very uplifting. Oprah who admits she is human and make mistakes and is not afraid of being who she is. They are strong women to me. I feel they respresent me in a lot of ways. So many of us have hard knocks coming up and let situations deterr us from our goals when they have not. Now I know I can do anything I want if I put my mind to it.
