Who else out there is preparing for CPNE? Or just pass it?

I am just beginning to prepare for CPNE. I usually don't get nervous about things, but I am REALLY nervous about this! How are you guys preparing, what tools are you using? Where are you testing? Do you know any one personally who has passed? What do they say?

Is everyone using a grid? It scares me because I see people who post who have failed the CPNE even though they have a ton of clinical experience, even in acute care. I don't know what the MAIN focus should be. Anybody want to share? :uhoh3:

Welcome to Allnurses.

There are several nurses here on the Distance Learning Forum in EC. Check out this thread: https://allnurses.com/forums/f125/passing-cpne-tips-my-experience-182525.html

I am about 1 month into studing. I took a Workshop in the first of September, recommend that. I have no idea how anyone passes without a workshop. I took Lynn's. Now I am learning the mnumonics

I bought a digital voice recorder and recorded them and I listen to them on the way to work and home every day. I am not a floor nurse I work managment but my nurses are really having a good time with this because I am doing part of thier work, Tube feedings, IV ABT, ect. also reading the study guide for the second time. and highlighting and making notes. I learn by writing. you can PM me if you want. I am testing January 2008 in Plano.

I just got the study guide "book" last week and have been looking through it a little. I still have that literacy class to pass, and I'll do that this week. Then nothing left but the CPNE.

Hi, I passed the CPNE in Utica, NY on 9/9. What would you like to know?

I am testing starting friday in OH. At the moment my big question is finding info on mixing medications for sim lab injection. I have looked in multiple text but can't find anything x for re: insulins but i know their have to be protocols for multi-dose vial vs single dose, narcotic and nonnarcotic if anyone has an input I would appreciate it. Also if you fail one skill do you have to repeat them all or just the one you failed

during the im/subq station, you will be required to draw up and mix two meds. for insulins (sq)- always draw up regular first. a good way to do this is to put air into the nph, then air into the regular, draw back on the regular, and then the nph. the vials for all meds are multi-dose, so you will of course swab the vial w/ an alcohol pad prior to withdrawing. i wrote and asked the faculty if we need to draw up the narc first and they said it didn't matter, i say do it anyway. if you fail a lab, you get to repeat it saturday night, but if you fail it again, the cpne is over and you have to reapply. just remember you critical elements and your clinical skills and you will be sucessful. good luck to you!

clarification needed here: at the subq/im station, are we just drawing up the meds or are we also injecting them? i know that may seem like a dumb question but i know there are simulations? right? any recommended study kit out there? i see a lot on ebay with videos ect but i wasn't sure if it was worth it.

[any details? how was the site? instructors?
