I want to know your experience with the BON/PRC with regards to them sending CGFNS the needed documents, for the use in CVS-NY. Did you wait too long? Or did you have to do follow ups etc? Im sure we know how bad some govt agency's service get. But maybe the BON/PRC is an exemption.

What I know is that I will have a hard time with my school. Contrary to CGFNS' statement that they will do the gathering of the documents, I am sure Ill have to do some leg work just to have my papers moving.

I want to look deeper into this bec going the NY route might not be the best for some of us. :( Bec if we apply at CA, we will have some sort of control on the sending of the documents. We will be the ones to request the BON/PRC and school to send what CGFNS wants (instead of them waiting for CGFNS to contact them).

There are really pros and cons to everything. No one is forcing anything to anyone. We are free to choose w/c state to apply to and live with their pros and cons. If you think that a particular state BON best suits your case then go ahead. Just remember that the ultimate decision is with the candidate.

We are Captains of our own Ship.;)

You cannot do any of the legwork. The shcool cannot send the docuements without the specific letter from CGFNS being received by them first.

If you do not want to go the NY route, then don't. It is 100% up to you.

you might want to consider new mexico/vermont first. when you're done with nclex, you can have a more relax time to process your visascreen and also the endorsement of license to ca or to your preferred state. but, it doesn't really make things quicker and may cost more. it's just that you can have the nclex preparation and exam done the soonest time. maybe, this can give you something to think about.

thanks everyone. i definitely want to the the NY way but dont have much confidence on some local stuff. the CVS for NY looks like a very good service. sadly, it might not work for me.

Even if you are going to work in NY, and you go thru Vermont or wherever for initial licnesure; you are still going to need to go thru the CVS for endorsement.

Just like what Suzanne said. If your ultimate goal is to be employed in NY, NYSED will still require you to do the CVS for NY so better do the CVS now because going for initial licensure in another state and endorsing to NY will actually be like applying again or starting from scratch. Plus the money you will be incurring for the fees.

I think the bottleneck for New York is the NY-CVS processing which is taking more than six months to process, simply because PRC and/or local nursing colleges are not too quick in responding to CGFNS' request for verification.

I also have a question, I am considering that while waiting for NY-BON eligibility, I will take NCLEX using my Ca. eligibility and then take NCLEX. If I pass, I know Ca-BON will not give me a license until I have my SSN and I will receive a letter that I passed.

What if I get my NY-BON eligibility after that and also got my Ca-BON's letter that I passed NCLEX, if send this letter or request Ca-BON to send a letter to NY-BON to certify that I passed NCLEX, will NY-BON consider this letter then give me a hard license?

Does anybody already did it this way? Any experiences?

i have no experience on this. you might want to look at ny nurse form 3 (ny licensure by endorsement of license or test results). download form from nysed op website. study it and ask nysed about your plan. it might help.

Why go thru all of that. You are just causing more expense for yourself.

You are definitely not going to hear it from me to go that route. If you want to do it, you are doing so on your own.

I know of some excellent children's charities that could use the money that you would be throwing away. It is really a shame to just rip it up like that.

Makes no sense at all to me.

What are you actually going to save by doing it your way? Not one thing.

Trying to take shortcuts like that will only turn around and bite you.

Well, I know I will spending a lot of money doing it but hey, I am seeing myself having two licenses (three including the Philippines) in the future. Having licenses in both NY and Ca. will open a lot of options for me to choose where to work.

I don't want to argue with you as you've been there already while I am still far off.....but isn't this a good idea?
