U.S.A. Virginia

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start this thread, so that prospective applicants to the nursing program can share our ideas and journey.

Thanks:)

I doubt they will base it only on Hesi A2... relax and don't worry over it everything will be fine. so approximately how many days did it take to get your results? because I think I would be able to write it late december, so I want to see if i can get my results early enough. Also what book did you use to study if i may ask? I am using the Elsevier Hesi book

Hey there,

I'm working on my Associate of General Science at Nova (will graduate in Spring) and will apply to GMU as soon as the application becomes available. I follow this guideline: http://chhs.gmu.edu/admissions/upload/nvcc.pdfAs far as pre-nursing, I have everything but Nutrition, and for the general education prereqs, I'm missing Religion and Art. I'm doing a GAA, so my hope is that one of these two general courses is waived.

My HESI is scheduled on Dec 27, and I'm a little worried because even though the material in the book seems easy, it's a timed exam, and I'm not fast when it comes to taking exams.

Hi lanekone,

I think we can only do our best. don't worry, but rather have a positive attitude for the test and I believe you will be fine.

Hi Neen04,

Did you say it took you 3hrs to get your results on the same day? thanks

Is anybody attending the info session on the 20th? I'm bringing a long list of questions. Has anybody been to their info sessions? In the list of supporting docs, they require a 3 minute video, but provide no details. Hmmm..

lanekone, I attended their info session in Aug and it was basically the same stuff on the website, that they glanced through, however at the end of the info session they reviewed our transcripts individually. so remember to take all your various college transcripts that is if you have more than one. About the video, they claimed they were still working on the details and that the nursing board hadn't concluded on what they would like to see in the video. However, they said since they had no interview session, they video was a way to introduce ourselves to them. Hope this helps

Missycarlious, thank you. I'm bringing my transcripts. I sent them to the admission office via email about a month ago, and, I guess, they ended up in a pile.. since I never heard back. I want to attend a transfer Tuesday for basic questions.

About the video: 3 minutes is a long time for an introduction ))

Do you guys have a back up plan? I'm thinking to try Nova nursing and maybe Marymount. Their deadlines are in March, so plenty of time for TEAS prep, which is harder than HESI.

I have schools like university of maryland , marymount as my back up plan, but I would still add more to it. however, I havent been able to pay close attention to them because I wan to focus and get Mason's application out of the way then I can concentrate on the others.. it is too stressful to do all at once.

I didn't even look at the UMD until now. It kinda bothers me to pay out of state while you practically are a resident of the DC metro area :angrybird12:. Have you ever talked to them, Missycarlious? Looking at their pre-reqs: they want applicants to have completed 59 courses.

Note, they want one semester of Gen.Chem.

And they want Sociology (I don't have that). Marymount, too. I guess, I can't escape that (was hoping to be over with heavy writing classes )

I did a little bit of research and noticed that a lot of schools with good nursing programs require Organic Chem. I was looking at the West Coast schools (planning to move there eventually) and figured what I've got so far isn't enough for the top ranked nursing programs. If I don't get into the Mason's, I can either try getting AAS at Nova, or keep taking classes that will expand my options for other schools. It's just I've been in school for almost 4 years now. I want to be done.

lankone, I haven't spoken to them personally but I was suppose to go for their info session this Saturday, but I couldn't. I know paying out of state is just annoying when you just leave close by. But I compared their tuition to that of the private schools and its a bit cheaper. I graduated with an associate of science degree majoring in general studies so I have all the prereqs except Gen chem. I am still contemplating on whether to take it in spring purposely for UMD. I wish they could waive it for me. You right most out of state schools require a lot more than Virginia schools and I was looking at schools in other schools, but their requirements just put me off.. Because am not willing to do any more prerequisites. If by any chance you want to do sociology, you can try Ralph Perrino at nvcc. He is really good and you don't do too much work. My prereqs are more than 60 so I should be good in terms of them wanting 59 credits. I understand your frustration of being in school for 4 years and wanting to be done, sometimes I also get that feeling too:(... But you will be fine

Missycarlious, thanks for the recommendation. Do you go to Alexandria campus? I took 111 with Katherine Burton and practically fell in love with chemistry. It's not an easy class, but she gives so much extra credit that you can get that A you need, providing you study.

So, my next semester is gonna be DIT121 for sure, REL100 and ART, and maybe SOC200 (although, I doubt I can afford a private school). I am looking for a CNA job right now to get some experience (and put it on my resume), so I'm reaaaly hoping for REL and ART to be waived with guaranteed admission agreement.
