White Pants Underwear Woes

Nurses General Nursing

As a former wardrobe and fashion consultant, I can't help but notice anytime I see an otherwise professionally dressed nurse, whose undergarments are noticeable because they too, are white, or even worse, colored or a print. Wearing nude undergarments, makes them far less visible especially when wearing white slacks. I don't know about you, but when I'm at work, I want to be seen as the professional that I am. If my undergarments are noticeable, it detracts from the message that I want to send, and that gets in the way of my interactions with my patients as well as with other health care professionals. It's not a huge thing, but why look this way when it's so easy to fix it.

I agree with you all the way. If all you have time to do is look at people's butt, you must not be doing your job.

On the other hand: I wear modest clothes in my private life - don't show breast, midriff, legs or undies - so I also want to be dressed modestly in my job as a nurse !

Walmart has some nude underwear that is inexpensive but it doesn't come in packs. I just bought 3 pairs and that's all I need for one week. They are definitely the answer to not showing off your underwear to everyone in the hospital.

You know what has always worked for me? Lavender underwear under white. For some reason it blends in and disappears much better than the light beige they call nude. I have fair skin and even the light beige shows. A more coffee/cream color works too for darker skin - or a taupe. But try lavender - or even a peach shade. Surprises me everytime.

and I WISH I could wear a thong and feel good about the view! Under ANYTHING!! Wouldn't do it of course under scrubs no matter what - but wish I felt I had the body that could option!!!

Nude works for me under white, though I avoid white pants at all costs!

Lab coats. They hide all sins including underwear offensively showing underneath white nursing pants made of cheap material. Lab coats also have huge pockets for all the stuff that pack rats need to keep with them at all times from hemostats to scissors to rolls of tape to breath mints for when we're called away from trying to wolf our dinners in the break room and we don't want a postop patient to puke on us.

Seriously, this stuff is small potatoes. If it bothers you, don't DO it. If it's on somebody else, look the other way. Fashion police don't belong on underwear patrol. As long as a nurse is clean and clothed and professional, she's doing just fine.

I could not agree with you more! Where I live and work white pants are the norm. We are socialized into wearing black underwear with them . It is not something you would make a mistake doing. Everyone will notice if you have some other color underneath. It is very distracting and professionally incorrect.

I've learned whenever you wear white bottoms you should wear black underwear. Wear solid black underwear, you shouldn't notice your underwear. Try it and see! Hope that helped.
