Hi everyone,

I'm an RN in the Philippines and now a resident of Oregon. I'm looking for a state that doesn't require me to take the English test in order to take the NCLEX rn. Thank you so much and any help would be appreciated. I have applied for CES through cgfns and I would like to be able to use it before it expires in December I think. I applied in washington actually and they are only waiting for my TOEFL score but I don't wanna take that English test. If there's any other way and not take the English test.

Do you realize that it's kinda offensive to ask that? You want to come work in an English speaking country but don't want to be tested on your English proficiency? The language you will have to use when communicating with, teaching your patients, documenting. I mean, doesn't that sound silly?

No, because my school was am accredited one, one that CGFNS recognized as a valid English institution. Not because I attempted to find a loophole to avoid having to write a proficiency exam for the language spoken in the country I wished to be licenced in.

And by the way, it is against TOS to speak in foreign languages on allnurses.

There are also a lot of institutions in the Philippines that are recognized by the CGFNS, like mine. Also, I was just educating her about her predicaments and I apologize to the mods for doing so. Now, I can't blame her for trying to look for a loophole as it is the system that is at fault and I believe it has been around years before she even came here.

State of Vermont doesn't require English test .

They do require local license and valid-for-work social security number

Wow! What a surprise! Actually, I didn't come to the US mainly to work as a nurse. If that has been my reason of coming here, I would have taken the English test before flying here. I didn't expect to insult anyone with my question. Wow! Anyways, to those who tried to answer my question, thank you so much. I really appreciate it. So Vermont doesn't require a foreign graduate to take the English Test. I should probably look into that and those other state that are mentioned in the comment.

Isn't it silly too that people who are way worse in speaking English than me gets to work in the hospitals in America?

Yes, I do think it's silly. I think if you are going to be responsible for teaching someone, for coherently documenting, for being able to understand doctors' notes, you should be able to pass basic language exams.

And I do apologize to you if my comment was a bit harsh. Please try to understand how often comments like this are posted here. While I may not be from the USA, this issue happens a lot back home in Canada too. I admit I am perhaps a bit touchy on this subject.

Kababayan, if you plan to take the NCLEX-RN in any state that doesn't require the taking and passing any English exam, then, wish to endorse (transfer or move) that out of state's license back into a state that does require the same sort of English proficiency exam, you do realize that what you were trying to avoid only means that you still need to meet that state's English requirements anyways.

Getting any out of state license is not an automatic guarantee to transfer into another state, as each state has their own separate requirements which must be met.

Each state will always look at your original college transcripts that you got your BSN from, look at any state's BON with regards to the examination OR endorsement forms. I think the only state that doesn't have a separate international form is LA (this is not Los Angeles, CA).

Since you mentioned you're now residing in OR, assume you do pass the NCLEX-RN in VT or WA or any states not yet mentioned, do you plan to work or practice in VT or WA or the other state(s)? If not, but still want to get a job in OR, then, there's no reason to keep looking around then try to get back into OR and waste more money and time just to endorse.
