Hi all, So I live in Portland,OR, but have no desire to attend any of the nursing schools in Portland. I'm very interested in Washington State University. I'm just not sure what other schools to look at, any suggestions?

If you don't mind me asking, why aren't you interested in any schools in the Portland area?

This is a great place to start your research, all in one place! Good luck in your search.

I don't like the city (lifestyle, not just Portland) or the traffic. I have had family members that have attended both Walla Walla, and Concordia University and I'm just not really sold on any of them. I've been looking into Walla Walla. I just feel stuck. I'm not really sure how to explain it.
If I were you I would cast a wide net (apply to all the schools you can) and tough out city life for a few years if you have to. I think by limiting yourself to colleges that are only in rural areas you will significantly decrease your chances of being accepted somewhere. Have you looked into Mt. Hood CC or Clackamas CC? They are somewhat outside of the city and you could do a RN to BSN program when you're finished. I believe most of the RN to BSN is done online, which means you wouldn't have to deal with traffic as often. If you're willing to relocate OHSU also has programs in Ashland, Klamath Falls, and La Grande. Regardless of who you talk to you will probably never feel sold on one college or another. I've talked to many nurses who attended different schools all over the area, and with the exception of one or two, I don't know any who are 100% satisfied or ecstatic about the education they received.

OHSU has a phenomenal national reputation if you meet the admissions criteria. As one poster mentioned, they have campuses across the state for nursing if you are deadest against living in Portland. The in-state tuition costs is a really is a fantastic value too...are you really set against leaving OR?
Does Washington offer in-state tuition to OR residents? Something to consider if you are dead set against Oregon programs. Out of state tuition is typically costly and it can be difficult to establish residency sometimes.
