Which of your nursing instructors would you like to most emulate?

Published

I admired all of my nursing instructors because of their vast knowledge and experience. Throughout nursing school, my desire was always to become as knowledgeable and skilled as them. Since I like teaching, I even once considered becoming an educator once my skills are more solid.

However, I would have to say that the ones that I was most impressed with were the ones who seemed to float effortlessly from area to area:

*A nursing instructor who has experience with adults and kids in both hospital and community, multiple advance degrees, and currently works as a float nurse.

*A nursing instructor who currently works in a cardiovascular surgical ICU with patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults who has authored a textbook.

*A nursing instructor who has basically done everything, including med-surg, ICU, ER, LTC and Community Health. She seems to have seen and done nearly everything.

I would like to be a well-rounded nurse like these instructors. Which nursing instructors would you most like to be like?

The ones who weren't catty.

I personally has a fantastic psych instructor; she did lecture and my clinical group. She was a little quirky (pre-req for psych?), so I enjoyed her personality a lot. She definitely knew her stuff and was very passionate about what she did. She was by no means a pushover, but she genuinely cared about all of us and was more than willing to meet us wherever she needed to so we could succeed. I sometimes think about becoming an educator, mostly due to her example and that of a wonderful preceptor I had as a new grad.

Purplelegal, I totally get your perspective on alluring the instructors who have done everything and have experience in every specialty under the sun. However, when I was in school, those were sometimes the people who annoyed me the most, lol! I can't put a finger on why; maybe because I know I will never be that smart. ;) I just love to learn from people who absolutely love what they do and have invested themselves in being the best at that.
