Which month is the best one to look for a job?

Published

I am wondering which month is the best month to look for a job in New York City. Which month is the one that most hospitals are looking for people? Or is most likly to find a position. I am thinking maybe August or September might not be a good time because most of the new graduates are out and the market might be too crowded. Then would December of January be better?

What do you think?

A lot of summer help is returning to school right now.

I would just start looking.

Good point! Do hospitals hire summer help for RNs? Anyway, I don't really see any job fair going on and most hospitals do not accept drop in interview at the mean time they don't give response to on-line application.

Is any hospital in NYC hiring right now?

I'm upstate NY. I know a lot of nurses here who work for the summer only and return to OTHER jobs come fall, mostly teaching. I also know LPN's who are working this summer and then starting RN school in September.

I grew up in NYC, though, and can almost guarantee that every hospital in the city has RN openings.

Find their websites and go to "job openings" or "employment." Most hospital publish their open positions online.

Oh...I see. Now I understand.

It seems every hospital has openings for RNs, but they don't really respond to on-line applications. Even for experienced RNs.

Maybe I should just be more patient.

Then dress nicely and walk your application in, or find a NAME to whom you can EMAIL it.

I just got a job here that's been listed since 6/2. Faxed the resume and cover letter. Nothing. Emailed it to Mr. X. Instantaneous results.

Hi loved

I have been on the search for a while. I passed nclex on June 22 and just received an offer from Bronx Lebanon on last Firday. I started at all of the major teaching hospitals downtown Manhattan then finally just started working my way uptown and in the Bronx. I just didn't have any "experience" even though I passed nursing school and was a tech on a step down floor for two years... Anyway... I applied at 9 hospitals total!

I would say go in dressed well, like Suesquatch said, have cover letter, 2 references, resume, and transcripts in hand. They will all ask for them. Always ask for the recruiters.

I am starting to believe that there is not a "huge" shortage like I was led to believe.

Hey, TamrRN07--I was just hired at Bronx Lebanon as well! I passed the boards in June and also applied to a bunch of hospitals in Manhattan, and heard nothing...in Westchester I was more successful, but I want to work in the city so I chose the Bronx. Anyway, I start orientation Monday, maybe I'll see you there!

Congrats Jenny! I am starting orientation on the 10th and I have my silly pre employment physical and pharm exam this Monday. I am really excited about finally working! What unit are you going to?

Don't forget a copy of your license.

The shortage is real, but not as severe in urban areas.

Good luck, and congratulations!

Hey Tamr, I'm working on a telemetry unit-they said I'll be working on 2 floors though so I think that's a little odd-and they said the orientation is 2 weeks classroom and 4 weeks with a preceptor--kinda short, I think, but I'm excited!

we live in the city not in the rural areas. so WHY THEY DIDN'T SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE????
