Which Hospital in Mass?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi everyone,

Just moved outside the Boston area and have not decide where to work. Any suggestions? :)

Beth Israel Deaconess has a good reputation for treating their nurses well. They're also a fantastic hospital.

Mass General is a wonderful hospital, medically speaking, but not as well paid as certain others; I have been told that the hospital quite seriously tells it's nurses that "the pay cut you'll take is worth having MGH on your resume." Also, the physical plant of certain parts of MGH leave much to be desired.

Brigham and Women's is physically nicer than MGH. It's also a union hospital. They are much better paid than MGH, another member of Partners, but you'll have to pay union dues and so forth.

Tufts/New England Medical Center is also union, and is smaller, it is seperated into the Floating Hospital for Children and the adult hospital.

Boston Medical Center provides a lot of free care and probably works with a more disadvantaged population than the others. It also recieves A LOT of the major trauma.

Children's is a very good pediatric hospital (again medically speaking). I am not very familiar with working conditions for nurses...

Specializes in LTAC, Telemetry, Thoracic Surgery, ED.

Great post and response...I'm a future nurse in MA and was wondering the exact same info....

lapappey :)

Thanks for the info., it was really helpful. What are you thoughts on Newton-Wellesly Hospital, sister hospital of Brigham and Women's. I read on the MNA that are having nursing issues( pay, benefits ...) I will be doing agency there shortly.

Specializes in ACNP-BC.

I just want to add that I worked as a nursing assistant for 2.5 years at UMASS-Memorial Medical Center (Memorial Campus) in Worcester, and then did numerous student nurse clinicals there, and now for the past 5 months I've been working as an RN there. I love the hospital a lot and am working in a very supportive environment. Boston is great, but don't forget the Worcester hospitals too! :)

Just want to know if Massachusetts is a CGFNS or NCLEX state?Do i need to take them both? Same with IELTS and TOEFL? I'm here in the Philippines right now and planning to work there.

Newton Wellsley is a community hospital and has a different feel than a Boston Teaching hospital. The pay will be lower than the Boston Hospitals but it has a good reputation.

Hi unless it changed from 2 years ago when I got my health certificate, it was both. I chose rnclex glad I did

There is also Deaconess-Glover Hospital in Needham.. Its a small community hospital. Really depends on what kind of hospital you are looking at and what kind of commute you want from where you are going to be living..

My best friend was the manager in the ED there and I think they gave her a raw deal. I would look elsewhere for jobs. Brigham and Women's is the best in tha area. The pay is good the docs are good in the ED and it is a good place to work. We currently work with the Docs from BI and they are wonderful.

Cambridge Health alliance has several jobs for RN's the salary is excellent and they have 3 hospitals to choose from.
