Which education path to nursing should I take?

Hello.

I am thinking of changing careers from Computer/IT to Nursing. I will be finishing my GE requirements by the end of the year to transfer to a university that offers both Computer/IT and Nursing programs.

I am already 24 and my education goal is to graduate as nurse before I reach age of 29 or 30. Also to get married and have children of my own before reaching age 29 or 30. Right now, am only studying part-time; always full-time work to support family as the eldest son responsibililty. This might be heavy stuff but I need to breakthrough the walls.

Which way is the efficient and fast to be a nurse?

  • Straight to BSN
  • CNA -> LVN -> RN -> BSN
  • LVN -> RN -> BSN
  • LVN -> BSN
  • ADN -> BSN
  • LVN -> RN -> BSN

My career goal as a nurse it to own/build/operate a retirement home community to care for the elderly. Yeah, I know my career goal is a "long shot" or "shot to the moon" or like grabbing the moon with my hands. But I still want to pursue that career goal.

Right now I am enrolling to classes like First Aid CPR for adults child and infant and some classes about Pathogens. I don't know though if those will help me to be better.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Get your BSN first and foremost then. At the very least get your RN then complete a BS in Healthcare Administration. (That is the BA I will have in a few months here, just as I start my RN program.) If you want to run a LTC facility, the administration part will be far more important in the longrun.

Since you also want to be a nurse, you could get your BSN and then minor in HCA or get your master. There are nursing and health care leadership degrees out there on the master level.

Nowadays people usually choose a program based upon which program(s) accept them in the competitive world of nursing school admissions. Apply to all programs in your area and attend the one that accepts you, or accepts you first. If several acceptances are received, choose the best for your personal circumstances.

Thank you for the replies.

While waiting for the application admission approval for nursing program, I am thinking of taking EMT classes. I don't know if taking those classes are permitted and if those would help in my nursing career but have to at the very least try. Have to make the wait worthwhile.

I don't think this is a long shot at all. I think it's admirable that you want to work with the elderly. I have a soft spot for our elders as well.

I think with your goals you should definitely go straight to BSN. Good luck to you.
