Hi all.
I am a California new grad RN and am currently in the process of endorsement to Texas. I have almost two months of SNF experience under my belt now, but am looking to go into acute care, with a particular interest in critical care. Does anyone have any tips on which areas/cities/hospitals are ADN new grad friendly in Texas? Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks!

Plenty of them still are but with your lack of experience you will have an uphill battle. Most hospitals in the major cities will only hire BSN nurses for their new grad internships, which you may not qualify for anyway given that you have started working. The job market for new grads in TX is somewhat tight. All you can do is try. I would STRONGLY encourage you NOT to move here ( or anywhere ) without a written job offer with firm start date in hand. The job market has devastated many a person in recent years who moved under the mistaken assumption that work would be easy to find once getting here. Generally in the big cities hospitals take on new grads twice a year - July and January. Interviews for these start dates begin a few months before that. Parkland in Dallas still hires new grad ADNs for internships. Competition is steep with hundreds of applicants per opening.
You will find more open job markets in the very rural areas and along the Texas/Mexico border. The cities are saturated with new grads.

I agree with not.done.yet. The markets are extremely competitive all over. Do your research before you move...if you have no choice (family moving), that is different. Learn about the state, find areas that appeal to you, start looking at hospitals in those areas for job postings. As noted, most of the city hospitals are looking at BSN entry requirement.
Thank you both for your responses. I am staying in California until I have a definite job offer. The job market here is also pretty tight, but I'm giving it a few more months.

Almost all hospitals especially in the medical center want BSN as they are all making the big push for magnet status
