First time posting, just found this site.
I'm currently working as an emt. I'm interested in possibly starting a nursing career. Thing is I have no idea where to start? I have so many questions. What school to pick, what perquisites are needed, is financial aid available? I'm located in Sacramento California. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi Victoria and welcome to AN! I’d suggest doing a search for nursing programs local to you, unless you’re willing to move. Then once you do so, take a look at their websites to see what the process is. Many will have you attend an info session before even looking at your transcripts or anything. You can typically see what prerequisites you’ll need on the website, but the info sessions should give you all the info you need to get started.
I got you started. I saw that on Sacramento City College’s nursing school website that they hold info sessions once a year in February. Wow, what perfect timing!
You’ll also have to decide whether you want to get an associate’s degree or jump into a bachelor’s program. There are many pros and cons to both and it sort of depends on your life situation as well as your goals.
Can you tell us a little more about your situation? That might help myself and other posters give you better advice or at least point you in a reasonable direction.
Thank you for your response I would be staying local in Sacramento I have a high school diploma from 2005 and my EMT license almost 2 yrs now. Just enrolled in an 6 week A&P class at Sierra college.I'm thinking an Associates degree I hope I'm not too old (35) to get into nursing? I once talked to a CCT nurse at work,he said you're getting up there in age might want to figure it out quickly. I'm going to speak to some of the nurses that I work with at my job I work for a local Ambulance Company a preferably like to work on the ambulance as a nurse but I'm pretty sure you need extensive experience to do that. This is my first time ever reaching out on the nursing subject so I really don't know where to start but I've been in healthcare for over 10 years. Trauma is where I'd love to be. I'm a single mother of a 12 Y.O. and work two jobs in healthcare. I'm concerned about how much time I will need for schooling and being able to work. Thankfully I can change my job schedule at both jobs to accommodate my schooling, since I readthey reccomend you don't work( that's a big concern). I will also need financial aid. Sorry for long post not even sure if that gives any helpful info? Maybe I should just go to paramedic which was always my dream but have been pondering idea of nursing. Any advice is awesome I'm everywhere on my paragraph here LOL. Thank you all!
